I have a very good but pre-digital Yamaha AV receiver. I successfully have used a converter with an LG smart TV like so:
Connect Toslink cable to optical out on TV
Connect other end of Toslink to a digital-analog converter
Connect RCA cables between the converter and a line input on the receiver
Whatever's playing on the TV (cable, air, DVD, Fire Stick, etc) plays fine through the receiver.
Now I've tried the same setup with same receiver and a Samsung Smart TV. When I go to change the audio output from "Internal Speaker" the "external speakers" option is available but the "Receiver" option is grayed out. The "external speakers" option does not result in sound coming thru the receiver.
Any ideas?
