Apps storage space issue

TV: UE55 NU7500

I'm not sure whether this is a general Samsung issue or just to do with my TV, but the amount of space allocated to the Smart Hub apps seems to be seriously lacking.

As this is a new TV I thought I'd explore some of the available apps, but when I went into the Apps area I got a message saying that there was insufficient space to update apps. This was before I had downloaded anything, so it would purely apply to the pre-installed apps.

I checked settings and the used space was 751MB with 64MB available, i.e. 7%. This seems absurd as these apps can't be deleted and are built into the system. The available space doesn't even allow them to be updated. I then tried resetting Smart Hub. This has helped to an extent as the available space is now 13%. However, it's still far too low and whenever I try and download a new app I get a warning about available space.

I can't believe that the pre-installed apps are taking around 700MB of space, and it seems crazy that Samsung would design the system this way. Presumably I will have to install an SD card to provide more space for the apps?

Any tips welcome as this is my first Samsung TV.

Yeah, based on what's transpired already I share your lack of faith in them.

Forget about what I posted ... I asked that guy how much was the used space and finally now he answered

Scusa ho invertito di fretta. Ho 162 mb liberi

653 occupati...

Translation

"Sorry I was in a hurry and inverted (the numbers). I have 162 mb free
653 used..."

if "this" is the magic bullet, it's not working. Sorry if I created false hopes 😞

I should have known it was foolish to get my hopes up :smiling-face:

Just literally come into this reply from Samsung following my mail to them posted earlier.

"Dear Mr X

<Samsung Rep> is out of the office presently, returning Thursday, however in her absence I wanted to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail but moreover provide you with a positive update that has been communicated to us from our colleagues in Samsung HQ.

Due to the comments and feedback concerning the challenges that some customers have been facing the Research and Development Team have been working on a software update for these models to address the raised concerns.

They have informed us in the UK that this update is presently going through its final testing stages and we hope to be in a position within the next week to provide this to affected customers.

We will therefore continue to closely monitor this with our UK Head Office Product Specialists and as soon as received will contact you further to discuss next steps for you to receive this.

Regards"

?? You can't magic freespace from hardware that's limited in space in the 1st place, the only way they can resolve this is to allow us to delete the apps we don't want. Tizen/OS takes up a certain amount of space (the majority of it), they won't be changing that, even if they did you'll still be limited as the physical drive is too small. What they need to do is release a FW which allows that and also doesn't keep randomly chewing up space when nothing changes :winking-face: Or replace all the mobos/drives with bigger ones, which they won't do.

Looking at the apps, theyre all being reduced to under 10Mb. Also when one is installed it takes up a fraction of said space, so I suspect theyre zipping the apps when unopened.

I also suspect that theyre maybe stripping out unused components of Tizen and reducing its footprint, or even removing the bloatware apps, to allow us to download them.

I remember Apple did something a few years back with bloated storage when installing firmware, in the past when you'd install a new firmware update, the temp files used to stay hidden on your iphone, and the only way to remove it was a backup/restore. tehn they released a firmware update that suggested that the temp files were removed after an update, theus giving the user their memory back.

I hope Samsung do sort out this issue as its a pain in the butt not neing able to install apps.

how did you manage to delete the e-manual?

There were some posts about it on page 28 of this thread. One is a YouTube video (in Russian unfortunately) showing the TV being restarted into Developer Mode and then one of the built-in apps being deleted. There's also a link on page 28 explaining how to enter Developer Mode. I followed those steps and managed to get rid of the e-manual but that was several months (and several firmware versions) ago. There's no point deleting other built-in apps though because they just come back.

The TV software needs updating to T-KTM2DEUC-1292.3 or later. (You can see this in Menu > Support > About this TV.)

You then need to flash reset the TV:

-With the TV on, press & hold standby key on TV for 5 seconds.

-Release and immediately press & hold standby key for 5 seconds.

If done correctly, the atV should restart.

Wait for the TV to completely boot up (home bar appears and then disappears) and check available memory.
