Hi everyone :),

I am owner of a 65Q9FN for two months. A month ago Samsung replaced me the panel due to vertical banding and dark spots in the screen (https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/TV-Audio-Video/2018-65-Q9FN-image-banding-issues/m-p/713156#M185...). After several weeks of watching the TV with several kind of contents, my wife and me have noticed that image losses detail in dark scenes. I have tried to change the settings (even backlighting, brightness, contrast and local dimming as high as possible) and the image stills dark under the above mentioned situations.

I contacted with Samsung support and a technician connected remotely to my TV in order to review if config was correct (both in the setup menu as well as technician menu). He concluded that was a faulty panel (once again...) and sent me a local technician. The local technician saw the image and he though is due to a config issue after replacing the first panel and wants a second opinion of a Samsung engineer. In any case, I can't solve this problem and Samsung can´t or does`t want to solve it.

I attached several pictures comparing my Samsung monitor to the Q9FN. A  test ire pattern at 5% (in this case the image goes completly black in Q9FN), a black level (in this case dark grays can´t be shown in Q9FN) test and a picture of a serie.

I’ve put in movie mode & turned off most of the eco options then dimmed backlight in settings much better now

had to fiddle for a while but worth it

frustrating but overall brill picture

its a screen with a wide wide range between dark & bright if one pulls back the brightness to much the dark detail starts to vanish ( worse case being black screen in dark scenes )

im suspecting the Netflix app is not helping its a little off -a tad dark

its energy efficiant best get use to brightness when scene calls for it then they’ll be a nice balance

still getting use to it myself

Same problem.

When using chromecast it's even worse when using the Netflix app.

Same Problem Here in NU7300. I turned off all of echo solution options but again I have the problem of dimming in dark scenes.

I hope samsung will fix it with a software update.

I noticed that when I set the display to normal mode the dark scenes are way less dark then in movie mode, natural of dynamic.

Scenes of Ozark are good enough now.

Same problem here with a 55 Q6F and Samsung do nothing about it. It's impossible to watch something with subtitles properly.

I will never buy anything Samsung again always lacking on detail and everything is rushed with no craftsmanship.

I had the exact same problem. It drove me mad. It's actually a "feature" of the TV. It's called Pulse Width Modulation. The fix is by going into the service menu and turning this most annoying thing off. These instructions on YouTube worked perfect for me.

Nice finding.

Doenst it come with a downside?

Does the tv still dim an night with low light or is it at full brightness?
