volume / issue / volume works during DVD use / no volume during standard TV mode / model UN40EH5300F smart tv

i've probably overlooked something simple

------------------------------------------------------

checked remote control batteries

checked possible mute being enabled on remote 

disconnecting DVD player from TV,  to see if DVD itself is overriding standard tv volume controls   < - -   trying this now

Have you tried resetting the sound? Go to Menu > Sound > Reset Sound.
