So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II  HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

...

Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

Apology for the off topic.  HLG over HDMI works great ( with ROKU Streaming stick ).   I have been paying both Amazon prime and Netflix HDR content through ROKU and I am finding the picture quality is worst than 4K content ( very Dim and grainy ) and have 60mbps wifi network connection  so its not Network issue.  My TV ks9500.   Is this because this TV does not support HDR10+?  Does anyone else have this same issue?

What is the picture like with the on board Netflix app.

When using the Roku does the TV kick into HDR mode full backlight.

There is no HDR 10+ anywhere that I know off.

on board Netflix app quality is slightly worst than ROKU .

Yes the on ROKU HDR does kick in.

I thought i read somewhere that Amzon prime and Netflix converted all the HDR content to HDR10+.  Perhaps misunderstood.  But regarless of HDR10+ , the HDR content looks worst than 4K content.

Not sure on that as I had the ks9500 and HDR was very good,  but due to other issues was replaced with a q9f and the Netflix HDR on that was awful dull and where there were black bars limk a shadow around the screen,  bit like looking through binnocolas. Sent it back. Was HDR good before and have you enabled UHD mode for the HDMI connected to the Roku?

Both folders on the USB untouched.

I wish Samsung had just put the firmware on the site in the first place.

What's the difference between the files? :smiling-face:

I think one is for the K and the other for the J series

OK I'm done with this.

I'd like to thank those that helped me understand some of the technical terms, and how to optimise my TV for showing HDR content.

I wil still never buy another Samsung product - this fix for some of the K series issues has been slow coming and I'm guessing would never have come about if it were not for consumer pressure and non-Samsung engineering.

The list of 'stuff' bought since I became aware of this thread:

Fridge freezer, Samsung products ignored.

Android mobile, Samsung products ignored.

Chromebook, Samsung product ignored.

LED domestic lamps (light bulbs) Samsung products ignored.

I'm sure there will be many other items I need to purchase in the near, medium and far future that Samsung could provide - but no thanks.

Of course I tell anyone who will listen to avoid Samsung.

I've removed my subscription to this thread.

J series? Which models of the J series? I didn't think there were any of the J series being updated. Many thanks.
