So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.
...
Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

@ne_on wrote:Right. I’ve basically followed the instruction set by Samsung . Where I download and run the exe file. Extract to the usb stick. Make sure the folders are there. Eject safley. Plug in to the tele. Search for update via usb and it comes back with a pop up message saying no update is found or something along them lines
ok. so your USB looks like this?
root \ "image" directory \ upgrade.msd + info.txt file.
Try another USB socket, @ne_on, it's strange but some people found it didn't work onthe back of the TV but did plugged into the One Connect Box. Or, the other way around.
Can you normally playback mp3s and video files from the same USB stick? Put some content on it and see if the TV can read the stick at all.
Lastly, if you are already on the new firmware but you didn't realise it, it'll say there's no new update. Check your Settings - Support - Contact Samsung screen and check which firmware you are on now :).

mr tickle you've been a great help. It's just me being stupid. turns out I'm already on the latest software haha
the specific reason I wanted the update was because I hear it fixes the game mode where the backlight ramps up automatically when playing hdr content however it didn't seem to work for me. I'll try again
thanks mr tickle
Awesome, you're welcome!
Try game mode with definite known SDR content as well, deliberately set a lower backlight. If you've had backlight 20 for SDR before, it'll be at 20 in both HDR-game and SDR-game.
Do it in YouTube if it's easier, Game Mode it's only a picture mode, you don't need to faff around changing games on your console, just play a HDR youtube video and a SDR youtube video for testing.

@crashcris wrote:@blenky Thank you very much blenky, most helpful. Think I might give the Roku+ another buy/try. I'd still very much appreciate hearing from others as to whether they experience the same as you do. I'm on Virgin 50mps BB so the bandwidth should suffice.
Thanks again, you're a star!
No problem. Also the Roku's Netflix app is very good. - proper frame rate.

Mate the mistake I was making was I was testing it on the xbox netflix app. But this is a complete seperate problem as everthing is shown in hdr even if it's sdr content. This has not been resolved by microsoft/sony and netflix yet and has nothing to do with the tele as far as I'm aware. Tried with a hdr game and happy days. All is working.

Nice. Sigh, I'm a VM customer :-<. Will that be HDR as well?
No. No mention of HDR at all. If it was HDR, they would have shouted it from the rooftops.

Remember, sky's boxes in the UK CANNOT do HDR yet. Italy yes. Germany no, UK no.
So it's a "no".
Virgin Media are a long way ahead of Sky in technology, particularly when it comes to HDR. The Virgin V6 TiVo box already supports HDR.
In terms of hardware capabilities both sky Q 2 TB and V6 are HDR capable but have not yet enabled

Of course over the internet construction/component parts of stream can be different.
I agree that some TV's do not recognise HLG STREAM , including KS series, just turn off HDMI UHD color setting for Roku Stick +, and you have a snow scene. So make sure HDMI port set to ON IF YOU TEST THE ROKU STICK +.
Plus my Panasonic 700 Uhd bluray player, from SUB stick, will identify LG Hlg Jazz clip as HLG, but my KS7000 tv will not recognise it as HLG, but if you set the HLG / PQ Conversion, to automatic the hlg signal converted to HDR (PQ) format. PERHAPS ANOTHER ROUTE FOR HDR LIVE SIGNAL.
OH BOY ALL I DID WAS TO REPORT ROKU STICK + BBC IPLAYER HLG STREAM.
NOW I KNOW WHY I DON'T NORMALLY POST ON THIS FORUM.
Did anybody find the article interesting.
Anybody disagrees with it?

VM have a new HDR enabled firmware they are trialling at the moment. However no idea when it will roll out.

I certainly found the last section of interest, especially "Digital UK included support for HLG in its 2017 specifications for its Freeview Play platform."
Many thanks.
