My Sonos Playbar was taking its audio feed from the optical output on a Samsung UE48HU7500T tv. Broadcast signal was Freesat HD. On some days I was getting momentary sound drop out on more than 10 occasions. Other days, no problem. Sonos recommended I try a stand-alone Freesat HD box, thereby bypassing the TV's internal tuner. Since connecting a Humax Freesat HD box to the TV's HDMI 1 input I have had no sound issues. Anyone else experienced anything similar or can offer an explanation? It appears that Sonos and Samsung are not 100 per cent compatible.

We're afraid we can't guarantee 100% compatibility with non-Samsung devices.
It may be the signal strength and quality is affecting the sound here.
Did you try a different optical cable when connecting up the TV and Playbar without the Freesat box?
