I have been told my SMART TV's current Version: 001010 needs and upgrate hence why I cannot browse on the internet, everytime I try to search something on google it says server not found, even though the internet connection works fine.  I have been told that I would need to updgrade it by downloading the new version into a formated USB and download it into the computer however this could "destroy" the system, has anybody done this or has any sugestions.  I feel like I bought a great TV that now is useless, also I got a message from You tube to say that in a few months I won't be able to use the app.

Is there any other way to make the TV  up to date, so I can browse etc.

On a second point It has several times switched itself on at night and it seems to be changing channels alone.....really freaky, seems to be radio channels, what seems to be the problem with this?

Thanks for your help?

@pwaldo51 You can go to Menu > Support > Software Update > Current Version to find the existing software on your TV. The most recent version available for download is ver 2008.0, available for download via the following link: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE40ES5500KXXU.

I am on version 002007 - when I try to get an update online from the TV it says - there are no new updates available. Does this mean that 2008 is not compatible with the TV or  is the only way to achieve this via a USB? Thank you for your guidance.

I recommend giving the USB method a try, @pwaldo51. Do you have a spare memory stick you could use?

I find it odd that over air update is always ages behind the USB update.  Why is this as I am sure it would be easier for everyone if the USB update was also over air at the same time. Just a thought.

Hello All,

Here's the same problem with UE32D6510WS. The network settings are ok. There is a working cable connection also the wi-fi is set. All the applications are working exept the browser. It executes the search but then all the links end up as SERVER NOT FOUND. I have tried factory reset , updates, the DNS set to 8-8-8-8 but still nothing!

Does anyone have already a solution?

Thanks a lot !

Your reccomendation is completely useless for most of us at least.

The browser is the problem period. updating does not fix the issue at least with my UN60D8000. When I bought it in 2012 it cost me over $2500. And yes Im on the latest 2015 firmware 1034.

Its pathetic that the problem is being ignored for some reason. Whether this is a by accident, lack of customer support, or by design to try to get customers to upgrade to a newer tv is the big question. And the fact that people with newer models are having the same issue makes the question far more relevent. Why isnt Samsung fixing their browser? They eliminated the options of using Firefox and IE yet they wont fix the browser for us?

I figured out what the problem by messing around with the browser for a while.

The problem is the supplied browser refuses to recognize any address with https in the address string. It does work with all http addresses yet it is impossible to type in http in the address string as an "s" is automatically added even if you type in manually.

Example:

Manually enter

http://www.msn.com/

Broswer Automatically changes to

https://www.msn.com/

As stated before https addresses will not work. And I cant get to msn.com or any other address no matter what because it comes up https every time.

I found a work around but it is pathetic to have to go through all this.

Workaround to get to a webpage:

Go to browser - setting - options - set home page

Enter address for home page and save.

Example:

http://www.msn.com/

Whether you click on the home page tab or restart the home page you can get to the webpage you set as home page because it stays http. I tried this with multiple websites and it worked for me every time but again why the heck should we have to go through this to get to a webpage?????

Also notice that your search engines are only working because they are always http. This is pretty odd and makes it seem even more deliberate because entering Google or Bing manually they always auto change to http yet every other address entered manually all auto change to https which wont work.

Watch this post get deleted by Samsung to advoid fixing the problem. As much money as Samsung makes why wont they give us even an open source browser like Firefox?

I tried this using Nowtv as home page address (http) - but on clicking home page the browser still changes it to https - so no further forward. Any other ideas please?

Completely correct.  never buying another samsung.  the time wasted by listening to reps who know the issue but too bloody dishonest to tell the truth.
