Brand new 55 Q9FN, terrible panel quality

First Poster

I understand what you are saying but as I said if you google the problem it is a very widespread issue. If what you say is correct, there is a hell of a lot of people out there with bad panels!! I personally think HDR is still in its infancy & will improve with time but I will keep a close eye on the issue & return the tv if necessary.

Just a quick one but have you made sure the eco mode is not on and disabled in the settings?

Yes Paul the eco mode settings are all off.

As i wrote earlier, I don't think it is a panel issue. The software seems to dim the image too much for certain content. There is also lots of Netflix HDR content that works great, like Altered Carbon or the Haunting of Hill House. I really only had a real issue with Ozark so far. Yes, the creators might have inteded it to be dark, but certainly not so dark that you cannot see anything anymore. ;-) Generally what I don't like about the Q9FN that the displaying of subtitles has an effect on the overall brightness. Turning on or off subtitles should not change the brightness at all IMO. That effect is rather irritating.

I have a two week old Q9FN, and while watching "The Haunting of Hill House" I'm experiencing the brightness/flickering issue. That is,  during a dark scene, initially it is dim and then all of a sudden when subtitles show up the screen brightness goes up, as if someone turned on the room light in the scene. Really distracting and taking away from the immersion.

I'd like to think that the issue is due to faulty panel otherwise I don't see how not too many people are complaining about it. It is terrible.

Could be...not sure. Let us know if you speak with Samsung and what they say.  My sense is that it’s more software and algorithm vs panel - but let us know what you end up doing...I’ve seen many people report it via Reddit that would also love to know if it’s indeed a panel issue.

Could you add some of those reddit links here, just for reference?

I still believe it's a software issue, as quite a few seem to have it...

Sure it could be a software issue. I do see reports of this issue that date many months back though, wouldn't Samsung had already fixed it if it was a software issue?

I'd have to check the threads to find them again...

Either way - it's a premium TV at a high comparative price-point, I dont think they would expect to receive a torrent of feedback and comments on forms.
