Why is the Galaxy Watch so poor at recording sleep?

Having previously owned the Gear S3 Frontier I expected the Galaxy Watch to be an upgrade but it's sleep recording function is terrible.  It rarely recognises when I wake up and if I relax for any amount of time, such as playing video games or using my PC, it records the time as being asleep.

It's even recorded sleep time when the watch has been on the charger. At the moment the watch and Samsung Health think I'm averaging 12 hours sleep a day.

Is there any way to fix this inaccuracy or should I just hope that Samsung releases an update that fixes it as it renders the sleep data pretty useless at the moment.

My s3 was pretty good at predicting my sleep. Recently, its recording "sleep" randomly throughout the day, even though I'm up and running to meetings etc. Another thing is it is prolonging my nights... going on into my morning workout. Bizarre!
