When finished recording a workout, Strava sync can sometimes take hours

I have my Samsung health app (on the phone) set to sync with Strava. So whenever i record a workout (Cycling, running, walking etc), when the workout is completed, Samsung Health is meant to sync the data with strava.

I have a regular problem where the sync can sometimes take 12 hours approx.

This is an inconvenience because i like to finish my workout then look at the activity straight after in Strava.

I have tried these steps in order to 'force' a Strava sync but it doesn't work:
- Clearing the app's cache
- Force stopping the app and re opening
- Uninstalling the Samsung health updates and reinstalling them / re set the app back up.

I have also recently done a factory reset of the phone in order to fix another issue i was having...the issue survived that.

I am using a gear sport SM-R600NZKABTU

The phone I am using it with is a galaxy S8 plus SM-G955F.

The watch software version is:

Tizen 3.0.0.2

R600XXU1ARC4

Phone software version:

Android 8.0.0

Baseband: G955FXXU1CRD1

Gear app 2.2.20.17113061

Gear plugin 2.2.03.18041051

The gear manager, Samsung health and the watch are all up to date.

My friend has the same issue using a gear s3 with a note 7.

Currently, in order to sync straight away i am resorting to manually exporting the GPX file to the strava website.

This issue is intermittant.

This is actually due to the way that Strava processes information. If you change it to a "race" it will give you total time rather than moving time. It is more pronounced if you aren't moving at a consistent pace during the run.

Can we have an update on this mods.

When should we be expecting Samsung health version 6 which includes the fix for this problem?

So after the announcement of the new Galaxy Watch yesterday, it looks like Strava is going to have it's own app for the watch! Going by this screenshot anyway (taken from here: https://www.samsung.com/uk/wearables/galaxy-watch-r810/SM-R810NZDABTU/?cid=UK_PPC_6917387704_G~FF~Ev...)uk-feature-apps-in-abundance-111397875.jpg

hi I've just bought a gear s3 and have tried to record activities using Samsung health but it just won't push them to Strava. Do you need to have Strava summit? I currently only have the free version of Strava and no matter what I seem to do the activities don't appear. Can't say I'm all that impressed with the gear and the accuracy of tracking cycling/running this far. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers

Hi Jamesm,

You do not need any paid version of Strava in order to sync Samsung health with Strava.

You just need to make sure that Strava is activated in Samsung health connected services.

This thread is due to a problem with the syncing process. Strava only allows a certain amount of syncs per application per day. Samsung health is currently exceeding that amount. That is the reason the sync will not take place later in the day (because all the 'syncs' have been used up).

This problem has been reported and fixed but the fix is only included in Samsung health version 6 (Not currently released).

When should we expect to see Samsung health version 6 which includes the fix for this problem...mods?

Just letting everyone know.

Samsung have just pushed a notice to Samsung health which states Samsung health V6 should be rolling out on the 24 Aug. That should include the fix for this problem (according to an earlier post).

Disappointed again that we had to find out ourselves rather than the mods on this forum getting us the answer...

I too have been wondering why it sometimes takes so long to sync to Strava and came across this thread. Since I did not see Samsung Health V6 on my phone, I searched for that. This article came up - https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-health-connected-services-898834/. Can anyone verify the accuracy of removing connected services? This will be a huge deal breaker for me.

I found this article that states Strava will be the only connected service. Better but not great.

Hi camjam,

As stated earlier in this thread, connected services is being discontinued however Strava sync will remain. The problem this thread is reporting is fixed in version 6 of Samsung health (yet to be released).
