SD card problems

Apologies in advance if im stupid lol. 

I have a sd card in my phone. But my phone keeps popping up with storage full messages. Yet i can clearly see i have lots of space on card. How do i put apps or maybe some gallery pics on this instead of internal.  Ive looked through my phone and its driving me crazy.
