Samsung - RS21JGRS - Fridge lights not working - And how to diagnose?

The lights in the fridge section are not working and it is not the bulbs (as I have tested bulbs in the freezer compartment and work fine). The freezer compartment works fine.  I have notice that when door is open it beeps and once closed it kicks off the fan.

I have ruled out an issued with the door switch as I used the one form the freezer and the lights don't come on.

I check the wiring, with voltmeter  between the light bulb holder and plugs next to the thermal sensor that has no interruption.

What is the best way to diagnose the issue?

Could the issue be with a PCB? or a fuse or something else?

@LeMarsu: Can you double check to make sure that there is nothing obstructing the door to prevent it from closing? Can you check the display to see if there are any error codes, or unfamiliar symbols lit up? In the meantime, to ensure that it is not simply a bulb issue, please try changing the bulbs in the refrigerator by following the instructions on page 16 of the user manual, to see if this resolves the issue. To be in the safe side, please unplug the appliance while carrying out this step.

Thank you for your reply please seem my comments below in blue to your suggestions below.

Are there fuses in the fridge?  or is there a maintenance manual ? Do you need both lamps in for it work (it looks like the circuits is setup in parallel - so I think not)?

Can you double check to make sure that there is nothing obstructing the door to prevent it from closing?

• the fridge is completely empty - and I tested the fridge door switch but replacing it with the one from the freezer side.

Can you check the display to see if there are any error codes, or unfamiliar symbols lit up?

• There are no errors or new symbols.

In the meantime, to ensure that it is not simply a bulb issue, please try changing the bulbs in the refrigerator by following the instructions on page 16 of the user manual, to see if this resolves the issue. To be in the safe side, please unplug the appliance while carrying out this step.

• I used the light bulb from the freezer (that works) and put it in the fridge area.
• I tested both lamp sockets with the freezer lamp that works with no success.
• Do you need both lamps in for it to work ?

Hi. I have exactly the same issue. Door switch ok, lights new and tested ok. Freezer lights work. All fuses on on main circuit board ok. I did have a sensor fail indication on the lower right hand side of the digital 8 display for the fridge temp. This clears on a reset and all runs ok but no fridge light. Is there a connection with this potential fault?

The issue sounds the same apart from the sensor fail indication. We did have a look at the connection and cables but this was not the issue in my case.

Ended up replacing the PCB module and all is well.

Replaced the sensor so no error code at all. Still no lights. I can hear the relay click from the door switch. Anyone know of a circuit diagram so I can check which relay is used?

Hi, thanks very much for your reply and the confirmation of the resolution in your case.

I will try a different Browser as I'm still getting a rejection using that URL for the manual/PDF I'm afraid.

May I ask whether the sourcing and replacement of the PCB is a specialist undertaking or within the scope of a competent refrigeration engineer, ie is it plug and play or does it require scanning and setting up via specialist software I wonder?

hi, i have a samsung sr-l626ev and the light does not work in the fridge. the freezer light now works after a new bulb, but the fridge light has a new bulb but still wont work. on the door switch, i can hear it click for the freezer, but not for the fridge. could this be a pcb issue or i need a new door switch? it has been like this for years, really want to sort it. otherwise the fridge is great.
