RS50N3513SA - Keeps dispensing crushed ice

Bit of an unusual problem. For some reason, the ice maker will only dispense crushed ice regardless of whether "cubed" is selected or not. I've emptied the ice out and ensured that all the ice is cubed but each time I dispense ice I can hear the blades chopping it up and crushing the ice. I think the selector maybe the thin metal bar that runs the length of the ice tray and sticks into a square hole at the back where there is an inch square shaped fitting. This flicks forward a curved plastic piece that lifts the ice up so the blades can chop it up. I suspect that the selector is stuck. I've checked for ice etc and there's nothing mechanical at the front of the dray, so it must be the square selector thingy at the back of the fridge?

This problem only started a couple of weeks ago. It’s always been set to cubed with the occasional bit of crushed ice.

Anyone have any ideas?

Still not fixed. Has to do with the selector bar I think but I don't know how it fits into the mechanism at the back of the fridge. I may have to give Samsung Support a ring. The fridge freezer is less than a year old so under warranty.

Called support. After 40 minutes of providing them with the same details that I provided when I registered the fridge freezer (why do they do this?) I had an engineer turn up and replace the part. So now, I have curshed ice and cube ice.

Well, I would have if the fridge freezer hadn't stopped producing ice???? Looks like the ice level arm is stuck in a high position so no ice is being made! Pressed the test button and ice was dropped and the ice tray refilled with water but the arm didn't move.

My last Samusng Fridge Freezer lasted over 10 years. This looks like a second engineer callout in under a year for me. Just not good enough.

I have found a solution to this. My Samsung American fridge freezer is only a couple of months old and suddenly it switched to dispensing crushed ice whilst displaying cubed. I treated it like a computer and switched it off at the mains, waited 2 minutes and then switched it back on again. BINGO! Cubed ice!

We always got crushed ice with the cubes.  I took out the icemaker and removed the rod that controls cubed versus crushed.  Now we just get cubes, but that is what we wanted.  Never used crushed ice.Removed rod.
