S9+ Android 9.0 Pie: where is Maps icon?

Apprentice

I've just made the mistake of upgrading my S9+ to Android 9.0. Among the problems introduced, Google Maps has disappeared. I know from Google Play that it's installed, but if I search the phone for the app, it is invisible, so there's no way I can see for me to add it to a folder or my home screen. How can I fix this please? If this can't be fixed, can I downgrade to the previous OS?

Did you try to uninstall and install from Google Play? Try also to clear cache and data for Maps in Settings -> apps -> Maps.

I reinstalled the app, which didn't work, but restarting it did. However, a weird thing happened this morning when I started the phone (I always shut it down at night). The app was visible very briefly on the home screen then disappeared. As before, Google Play said it was installed and up to date but I could not find it in the search to add to a folder or home screen. So I restarted the phone and it then appeared in the search. I haven't yet cleared the cache as I've downloaded a lot of maps I don't want to have to reinstate, but I wonder if anyone else has this problem or a fix or if someone from Samsung could tell Google about it for them to look into it.
