Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Battery Drain ?

SOLVED
Navigator

Hi all i been a proud owner of the Galaxy Note 9 for about a week now. i love the Note 9 but what's up with the battery ? Like today, i had 100% i must of watched a video on YouTube about 10 mins, and the rest with background playback screen off.. this was about 4pm so about 5:10ish pm i turned the background playback off..

I hadn’t touched the phone till 1am i.e standby only Bluetooth off 4G and sync  on screen res at FHD i have lost around 27 percent battery that is awful ? My Tab S 8.4 is over 4 half years old even that don’t have this much drain sync on, 4G on, no wi-fi, no Bluetooth.

For example i can leave the Tab S 8.4 overnight it will lose about 4% to 5% overnight not bad for nearly a 5 year old battery

But Note 9 will lose more than 15% to 20 + % overnight there is something not right?

Other thing Samsung i don’t want to root the my Note 9 (But you’re not leaving me much option) You installing all this Facebook garbage ? And you not allowing me to uninstall from the phone witch i purchased (Sim Free) is a bit of a joke ? What's up with that ?

I hate carrier bloatware that’s why I always purchase my smartphones sim free.. But now your installing Facebook bloatware is a bit stupid! Not everyone purchases a high end smartphone to use Facebook. Samsung please compute that! There should be a option to have unbranded firmware.. Thanks

Hi @TH3ROY

Best place to start troubleshooting is to look in your battery stats.

Facebook can be stopped in the settings and a package disabler in Playstore can rid the phone of bloatware - just be careful what you disable.

There isn't always the need to "root" the phone.

Another option is to put the phone in Safe Mode which disables the downloaded apps and leaves the stock ones Live which can help you determine if its a rogue app if battery returns to normal.

A Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Service Centre can run a diagnostic on the phone too if you deem it necessary.

Not sure how to get into safe mode? Will google it. Also i did read online, it takes about a week or so for the NOTE 9 to learn usage pattern, and for the battery to adjust. Not sure how true that is ?

It’s been over two weeks today I lost around 40ish % today. That’s from 4pm ish till 01:00 am my Note 9 was only on standby with 4g on, and sync on.. Everything else off, and I didn’t even touch the phone just in pocket..

Also I did try nova launcher as someone somewhere said Samsung launcher is the Android System drain, is that true ? it worked good for a few days then the drain came back..

It’s a massive joke my main culprit is for battery drain is Android System and Samsung email client these two are the main suckers. Android System is taking up a chunk of the battery just for being in standby how can I fix the Android System battery drain? And please note I’m using official Samsung email client and that’s got an fairly big drain as well..

I have just booted into safe mode will run for a few days see how I get on.. Also I did check App issue report nothing is begin highlighted or shown in there. Thanks

Safe mode is no good everything gets disabled all my apps so i don't see how that is useful to find the culprit app ? Today 7-am i put the Note 9 into flight mode, come 4-pm i checked phone i had lost 1% it was 80% when i put into flight mode and it dropped 1% battery when i turned off flight mode sync on 4g on bluetooth on as i needed to sync my Gear S3 data..

so it seems like this could be a network drain and Android System keeps sucking battery when network is on.. Can some please let me know can Samsung Remotely diagnose my phone ?

As the Samsung Experience Store is in london i'm 170 miles away :(

But the rep goes it sounds like a faulty phone and remote can't really do much gutted!

Hi,

I wonder if you're having battery drain troubles especially after updating to Android 9 pie.

I was reading at your first comment on this post and it looked as if you were describing the same problems I am having now. I have restored the phone to factory settings.. I have "calibrated" the battery following different steps given in this blog.. I have all saving functions activated... And still its draining like hell...

Every night it drains off an average of 9 - 10% without use!! The only time it only drained 1% over night was when I had the "plane mode" activated.. It is exasperating.

I get as max 4.50 hrs of "active" screen use on the phone, and that's what I used to get with my old iPhone having lot less battery capacity. I expected to improve in this one and to last at least 7 hours of active screen use like it happens with other friends I have...

Om having the same issue. I get around 4 hours too. When I just got it. Screen on time was 7/8 hours. But with every update it is 1 hour less. It's normal behavior for a Samsung phone though. Samsung builds this "feature" in its software for flagships to render these devices useless after 2 years, so that you must buy a new one. The biggest drop in  battery performance you will notice after receiving updates close to the releases of new flagships. My battery performance dropped tremendously when the s10 was released. It will do so again when the note 10 will be announced and again when it is released. You have to deal with this or buy another brand. This is Samsung's way of pushing people to their new phones. They say the  battery will degrade or that an app is running in the background causing it. But I know better by now. After loads of complaints with the gear s3 which had the same problem they pushed an update to my 2 year old gear s3 which all of a sudden lasted a day longer on a charge. I had a note 2, s6 s7 and note 9 all having the same issue. Update after update the battery went worse and worse. On release its awesome and lasts 2 days after a year you are happy to get through a day. After 2 years you will get around 14 hours. My note 9 has been charged once every 2 days. After 9 months that is around 135 cycles out of 1000 a normal lithium battery can take. And already it lost 50% of its capacity... and no one thinks that is strange?
