Is Note9 Telelens fake?

When covering the telelens on the Note9 and switching to 2x you will still get a zoomed in image (recreatable on Note8, S9+ and Note9). The photos also look like they were digitally and not optically zoomed in.

Does anyone else experience this issue? Do these devices even switch to a different lens and sensor when you select 2x?

No it's not fake.

The lense used when the user selects 2x zoom depends on the lighting conditions of the environment you are in. The TelePhoto lense is used under optimal/bright conditions, whilst the regular lense is used for darker environments as it will produce a better image.

To prove this you can try the following:

1. Open the camera and find something bright in the viewfinder. If you're outside or by a window try pointing at the sky.

2. Click 2x Zoom button

3. Now cover the main lense (the larger of the two) with your finger. You should still see a clear image as the device is currently using the tele photo lense.

4. Click the button to "unzoom". The device will switch back to the primary lense and your finger will clearly be obstructing the lense.

Hope that helps.
