Galaxy A8 2018 MUST Get Android 10 - Petition

Samsung's update policy, which means every phone gets 2 major updates MUST change. The Galaxy A8 2018 launched in January 2018 with nougat, before the s9 and Oreo while the j7 duo launched 2 months later with Oreo . This means the j7 duo, sold at exactly the same time as the A8, probably for half the price, will get android 10 while the A8 will not. Also, most A8 owners bought it after Oreo rolled out, 2-3 months later so not updating the phone to the newest version on android and making it a year's update before a worse phone should not be acceptable. And this may happen just because it was launched with a 1.5 year old os and had it for about 2 months. The Samsung update policy of 2 years is a lie for the A8 and a 2017 devices - it is more like only 1⅓ years of updates. Also there is nothing that the A6 2018 and all of the 2018 j series do better than the a8, despite all being sold at the same time and they will get android 10. Last year there was a similar petition for A 2017 devices to get pie, but Samsung didnt update them. Hopefully they do read this and learn that they won't make more sales of newer devices if they don't update older ones - it would just further damage their reputation. We must convince them to do this not just for the A8, but other devices like the S8 and note8 and for future updates as well. Android 10 will not roll out to Samsung devices for months, but if this is started now we can let them know early on so they have no excuses of not having enough time to make a new update, etc

If Samsung doesn't update my A8, can I do so myself?  Would that require doing things I'm not supposed to do?  I'm no expert - would it be easy?  Besides the installation question, could I download the update for free?

Well, considering the A7 2018 has the same CPU and A40 has a similar one and same camera, which get android 10, someone might make a custom android 10 ROM somewhere down the line. However if you install it you have a risk of bricking your phone and it voids your warranty and Samsung pay/ Samsung health/wearable functionality

@SamsSon: While it is possible to install an unofficial ROM of the Android 10 update, I must advise against this as it will void your warranty and cause compatibility issues with future updates, and apps.

@Querty7: As you pointed out other phones (A7) with the same chipset and camera modules receiving android 10 it should not be as labour intensive for samsung to introduce it for A8 as well?!

I love this phone, it is in my opinion one of the best mid range phones (size, build quality, IP rating). There is no other mid range phone with these traits, while flagships are out of my budget range.

Guys you must give the q update as most of the people have brought this phone when it was running Oreo.

I totally agree! Android 7 was already "dead" when galaxy a8 released. Actually no one used this phone whith android 7 and even if someone did, that was for a short period of time. And that is their mistake cause android 8 was ready for use when a8 released . It is not our fault if samsung is so late and one of the worst companies when it comes for updates. After all these we propably won't get android 10 because we already got 2 major android versions. IRONY. So mush money for a company that it seems not to pay the right attention to its consumers. I really stop buying their products after this treatment.

Samsung abuses their customer. There is no other explanation. A8 2018 is relased at 6 Jan. 2018 and can't get update in Dec. 2019 just because they put older version which updated 1-2 months after in relase which makes 2 major updates; but  2 years not passed. It's not customers faut to buy that phone between that weird timeleine. Samsung relased that phone and must back their product. Someone beeing lazy at the office and customers are paying it.

S9 was released only 1 month after A8, already with Oreo and receiving android 10...

I get your guys point, but the device came with Android 7 out of the box, Android 8 was provided after
the release of the device. So you have received 2 major updates, you also agreed to the policy within the T&Cs on
start up.

You are also using a Mid-range device, I mean S8 and Note 8 will not be receiving this and these are Flagship devices.

For people stating the J4+ and other devices will be receiving this, it’s quite simple.
The J4+ was released with Android 8 out of the box, whereas the A8 was released with Android 7 out of the box.
The J4+ was also released in October 2018, the A8 was released in January of 2018.

Android 8 was not even in the optimisation stage for the A8 when this device was released as it was provided publically
around Summer 2018. The device had been released for nearly a full year before Android 8 was even provided to the device.

This is not Samsung’s fault as you purchased a device that was nearly a year old. This is the reason you will not be receiving  Android 10, this not to upset the community. This because you Samsung have done this since Android 2.0 and you agreed in your T&C's to this that you will receive 2 major updates and security updates for the life of the device.

Starting a Petition will do nothing as your device has received the 2 major software updates, this has nothing to do with specs of a device its simply the policies you have agreed with by selecting 'I agree'.

The A8 has now switched to Security updates, if you wish to receive the newer software purchase a Flagship device or a newer device which comes with Android 8 or 9 out of the box.
