Hey,

I've noticed a problem with my A70 regarding trying to dim the screen when locking manually or expecting it to lock after screen timeout.

Basically, my phone won't sleep, at least not whilst charging. I spent a good while playing around with settings on my phone, such as timeout and lock screen settings. I also powered off the device but no luck.

After trying to figure out the problem further I discovered that the notification tray is being constantly updated every few seconds swapping between "Android system USB connector connected" and "Android system USB connector disconnected". So presumably this is what is keeping the phone awake as it thinks it is being constantly connected and disconnected from source USB source. I cleaned out the USB port but it was pretty clean to begin with. I'm not getting any notifications regarding any moisture detection.

The A70 charges just fine (though sometimes there is a slight delay to it recognising being plugged in) and it seems that the USB tethering interface is working well as I can use the remote debugging feature in Google Chrome (for web development purposes) just fine. As far as I can tell, there are no actual issues with the USB port - it functions as I would expect.

The A70 was last updated on the 14th August to "Security Patch level: 1 July 2019" and looking over the log of updates I see that "The charger/USB port's moisture detection algorithm has been improved" - so someone somewhere has been looking at this feature and I doubt it coincidence that my device has just developed a fault, given that I've not had it anywhere near moisture or excessive dirt.. and the port still actually works!

I've also tried Safe Mode but the issue persists. Also, if I power the device off, then plug it into the wall, power it on, the notification issue stops... until I unplug it/switch off the wall socket - then it comes back again.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Same issue here since mid September. Total disaster. If so many people are going through the same issue after the August update it seems like it is related, how what seems a hardware and software gllitch create the same issue for so many. Hope Samsung is doing something about it.

I had this issue a couple of months ago. I swabbed out the USB port with a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol, which did not help, turned off the Always On feature and generally fiddled with settings but nothing worked. Then it just started working properly, no USB connect / disconnect message, and has been fine until yesterday when the message reappeared again and the screen will not go off.

So back to original problem and the supplier will be getting some earache from me after the weekend.

A friend asked me if I would recommend the A70  last week and I said no, it has a stupid error that runs the battery down and will ruin it in short order

Am now beginning to wonder if this is the right medium to raise the issue which seems to be a common theme developing...took the unit to the service centre and was told that it is a sub board issue and potentially also mainboard issue. Before I hand it in for warranty claims I am still convinced the software update is causing the hardware to either malfunction/notice to keep popping up, or this has actually damaged the hardware. How do we get the Samsung developers to take notice and ensure a fix is implemented to the next update?

Hey everyone,

This problem occured to me as well last week. I tried playing around with settings and always on display, but none of this seemed to work. I can't really imagine it is a hardware failure either, since everything is working fine while the charger is connected.

Reading through the comments here suggested the problem had something to do with the charger used and indeed the problems with my phone started happening after borrowing my friends quick charger of the samsung s10 model.

Afterwards I let my phone drain completely and only used my own original charger and problem has been gone since. So maybe if you are using a different charger try using the original one for a couple of days and see if the problem disappears.

Hope this helped and hope Samsung will somehow be able to fix this, so other chargers can also be used without risk

Device: A70
Symptom: USB Disconnected/Reconnected message causing screen to stay on. No moisture message. Charges Fine. Screen only goes off when charger plugged in.

Cause: Talking on phone while in rain.
Tried: Complete discharge/recharge. Put in box of rice for 3 days, no effect.

Fix (For me at least): Settings> Apps> Show System Apps> USBSettings> Storage> Clear Cache then Clear data then restart.

Good Luck
