When using the K650 sound bar and two R1 Wireless speakers in surround sound mode over wifi with the latest firmware, The quailty of the sound K650 drops, sounds very muddy. As soon as you use the sound bar on it own, the sound bar improves. this is happening for a quite a few users.
can you help.

Hi Scott
I didn't realise that it hadn't fixed the problem for everyone. I have to say I haven't looked for any updates since the latest fix as I thought it was all done and no more updates were going to be issued. I can't check what version I am on until later when I get home.

The update to my R3s worked fine, although I got "failed to update" message once. No change in volume levels with MS650, still no DTS 5.1 update for it :((
Scott there's a new version of multiroom app (at least for tablets), check if you have it installed, maybe that's the issue.

I have just updated my R1's with no issues other than not knowing what it does!
I have to concede that although I was initially happy with the improvement to the surround sound through the latest HW-K650 frimware update I still feel that there is something lacking with the surround sound. Sure the test files work well enough but real life use still leaves me underwhelmed on the whole. Perhaps it is down to the programmes I watch or the position of my R1's.

Hi Nick
Have to say I am still very happy with mine. Having had a separates system until I moved and had to down size I can say that although it's obviously not as good it is really really close. It's worth noting that some movies use surround all the time while others are more subtle. To really give the system a work out try a transformers movie. Or to totally remove all doubt download some dolby demos. The Dolby amaze one is really good. My sofa shakes during the thunder storm and the rain is all around you.

Hi LeeLazer,
I have played the Dolby Amaze and I agree it is impressive. From what you say it is obviously the content of the stuff I watch that limits my experience. I'd hate to swap the HW-K650 & R1 system for a differnt setup and find it little better.
Does any one know if R3's perform better the R1's in the surround sound department? I imagine though it would not be worth the price hike.

Hi Nick
The R3 would more likely give a better Base response due to their larger size.

I have R3's and while they do have better base I can't say they perform any better as surrounds. Like Nick0, I'm still not impressed. I never really even notice the surrounds are there no matter what movie i'm watching and with the center speaker sounding so thin on the voices I tend to always end up switching back to just the sound bar before the movie finishes as it seems to give a fuller overall sound. Being that I can't hear the surrounds anyway this seems to be the better choice...

That's my experience as well, tinny center speaker on K650. Need to add that the volume on the K650 drops significantly with DD5.1.
These are the two known defects of the K650.
I've asked Samsung (Ryan) to confirm this with his technical engineers. He has not done this as yet. He did, however, wrote me saying the K650 is not defective, but admitted that it's his subjective opinion, not objectively verified by his engineers and clearly contradicts our tests/experience.
For these defects to get resolved we need first and foremost for Samsung to admit it exists. Ryan is not helping with this although he can. That is what I expected from this Samsung forum.
Ironically, this is why Samsung will continue to lose customers and stifle innovation.
Ryan, you know what to do.

Good morning @NotSamsung
Apologies if my previous messages weren't clear, this is a good opportunity to clarify where we currently are.
Unfortunately, I'm not a technical expert for the K650 and can't directly answer your questions. I've passed yours (and the other Community Members') comments and feedback to the specialists for review. As soon as I hear back from them, I'll reply to everybody with an update.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how myself and the team can offer any further assitance. Just to be clear, we will answer any questions we can. In the event we can't (like we have at the moment) we always refer to our specialists.
Just a heads up for those I've spoken to, I'm on annual leave from 7th - 14th July. The other moderators will be monitoring this thread in my absence.
