Hi

New to this so hope someone can guide me.

I have a new(ish) Samsung TV which does not have Freeview. I currently have Sky Q and watch all of my TV through this. Due to the ever increasing costs of Sky I am looking to change. I have looked at Now TV which could meet my needs but would still leave me without Freeview. This isn't too much of a problem for me but my parents live with me and I think it would take them a while to get used to having to watch BBC through iplayer and ITV through ITVX etc.

Is the only solution to this Freeview issue to get a Freeview box? I have checked my tv and I can't get the app (haven't checked the parents tv but that is newer than mine)

Why is nothing straight forward nowadays??

Open to suggestions

Thanks

Hi @HelUrq Your model should certainly have Freeview as built into all modern Samsung Tv's. However it is not available via an app, you need to have an aerial connected to receive the Freeview channels. Samsung do not support Freeview play.

With aerial connected and source on Tv you need to scan for channels.

https://www.samsung.com/scanning Channels,

A Freeview guide is also here :https://www.freeview.co.uk/help/retune-samsung-tv

Try scanning again, sometimes when issues some customers have found it worthwhile to scan with the aerial disconnected before reconnecting again. .obviously no channels are found but it resets the connection and a further scan can result in additional channels being found.

Another idea is a manual scan , further explained in this guide https://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/help-guides/freeview/manual-retuning-to-restore-reception-or-missing-channels

Unfortunately not, you need aerial to access Freeview. Apps such as bbciplayer, itvx and so on are available via the Internet. https://www.redbytes.co.uk/best-tv-apps

The Freely app is not currently supported on Samsung Tv's. You need subscription for the likes of Sky/Virgin.

We purchased a 65” Samsung smart tv today 1st Nov 2024 from Curry’s PC World Gloucester.

We specifically asked the salesman if we could received all the local channels / Freeview including BBC1, BBC2 etc which he confirmed.

Needless to say, totally wrong and although I have tried scanning etc cannot add the BBC channels and some of the other local ones.

Contacted Samsung on both occasions the call centre said it was an arial problem and we would need to get a technician out as the ‘Broadcast” tab on the tv was not highlighted

Both these people who tried to sort the problem out taking remote control of the tv - with both saying it was an arial issue.

Funny that, as I took an arial off two of our other smart tvs ….but would work on the Samsung.

After a lot trial and error I have managed to add most of the local channels but not the BBC channels - I have also managed to get the “broadcast” tab working.

it seems Samsung / technicians know full well they have a problem with the TV’s ….and also Curry’s PC World.

Hoping to get a full refund tomorrow for a deliberate mid sold television!!

Absolutely livid, a lot of time and effort wasted

How did you manage to get it to work?! All I get is no Ariel signal when I try and scan and I know there is no problem with the aerial or any problem with the aerial cable because I've tested it with another TV
