TV Sound issue distortion vibration QN900a and other models

Good evening all. I am reaching out to you all for help and support please. I don't know where to go. I have the QN900a TV within warranty and only 10 months old. I am aware this model and others QN800a and QN700a have had sound issues. The speakers on the back of the TV vibrate the back plastic panel so the sound is awful and distorted. Samsung have issued a service bulletin to Martin Dawes and the PEQ has been changed to value 1 (they also tried value 2 but that was worse) The sound issue is now worse than it was. The vibration and distortion is still present when any bass is played but now the sound is so tinny you just can't listen to it. It seems they have just tried to remove any bass from the TV. I raised another case to Samsung today because it's not fixed and not acceptable and the case has been closed down again. No contact made to myself and Samsung and Martin Dawes are saying the sound is within specification. The sound is not as described on the Samsung website selling the TV as 'Incredible audio'. This has been going on for 4 months now and Samsung and Martin Dawes are not taking my case serious. I think this is unfixable. It's a design issue. I suspect the QN900b will also have the same problem. Can someone help me please. Who else has had issues please. It was suggested at one point I purchase a sound bar but for a TV costing £6000 10 months ago I shouldn't be being asked to use a sound bar. I really hope someone sees this that can help me. I have lost all faith now in Samsung Customer Support and Technical Helpdesk and the Case Handlers. My next step will be a complaint to the CEO as I can't see where else to go next. I'm still open to communication from Samsung but I'm at the stage now I just want my money back and I am speaking to a solicitor and citizen advice bureau.

I have the model QE65QN900ATXXU. Reading other AV forums and also international Samsung community pages it seems to be a known issue. My TV has had this issue since I purchased this and I have asked Samsung and Martin Dawes for a copy of this service bulletin. This is not a 'fix' it just tries to remove any kind of bass from the TV but I still have the vibration as well as just a tinny sounding TV now. It's not what you would expect from Samsung or from a £6000 TV..

Thanks for the note. I am glad to say I won in the end and Samsung gave me a full refund of £6000 after 11 months of fighting them. It's a know common issue on the QN models, A and B. It's a design issue and not a software issue. I will never buy another Samsung product again after what I had to go through. In the end I had to escalate up the chain within the authorised service centre/Martin Dawes. They then took the case into Samsung at a high level. I even emailed the CEO and didn't even receive a reply from that team that look after the CEO emails. Never again. I also bought direct from Samsung which was a massive mistake. I will also purchase via a 3rd party now like John Lewis or Currys. I've switched to the latest Sony QD-OLED now and it's the best TV I have ever owned. Amazing picture and sound. All I can say is keep fighting Samsung.. Don't back down and push for a full refund. I sent Samsung about 9 or 10 other examples of the same issue for many people from all the different AV forums and they still said there was no issue. I was lucky with Martin Dawes that they agreed with me and they escalated it on my behalf. Good luck and keep me updated and let me know if I can help further

While smart TVs have similar features, their audio settings and the way you fix them vary slightly from brand to brand. But our experts' tips below should help you recover the sound on your device.

Increase the volume on the TV and/or your connected media device (streaming player, Blu-ray player, cable or satellite box, etc.).
Check the audio settings on your TV and connected devices.
Turn off and unplug your TV and connected devices.
Inspect the TV cables and ports, then check the ones on your devices as well. Are they connected correctly and firmly? Is there any dust or debris in the ports? If so, it may have been an issue with the HDMI sound not working on the TV.
Swap out the media device for another one, or change the TV's speaker output to the internal speakers to see if it fixes the sound.
If the problem involves one of your connected devices, check its audio settings. Turn it off and unplug it for at least 10 seconds. Repeat steps 4 and 5 on this device, then plug it back in and turn it on. Install any software updates that are available, and if you still don't hear sound, connect this device to another TV or do a factory reset.
Check for and install any software updates for the TV, then retest the sound.
Reset the TV back to its factory settings.

Regards,

Rachel Gomez

Hi Rachel Gomez,

As I wrote above, there is only a TV on the wall. No other devices are connected to the TV. I tried to run the factory settings first, because I work in the IT sector and I know fore ... go to factory settings.. update the firmware .... all this was done but still the vibration appears on the back of the TV only if it is a little more present bass. The TV has two setting options, i.e. normal and amplified sound.. I must not set it to amplified sound, because otherwise there is really damage and non-stop vibration... at the intensity level from 1 to 100 already at 7/8 .... As I am I read all over the forums, this is a very well-known Samsung error on several different series of Samsung TVs, and this shouldn't happen with a €6,000 TV... not even under miscellaneous... Fortunately, the service responded to me and they ordered new speakers right away but I very much doubt that it will solve the situation... judging by the forums, Samsung refunded the money to the people and they went to Sony, where now they don't have any more problems... here the problem is only in poor execution and with that the TV is very thin there is a vibration on the back side and if you put your hand on the back side you can also feel it... and it is very annoying especially at the price of €6000

Greetings,

As I already wrote above, even replacing it with a newer model did not eliminate the sound error that was already occurring with the previous model...
I partially fixed this error myself with the help of a friend who is a foam cutter... he cut a few pieces of foam that I then installed between the TV and the wall (the TV is mounted on the wall)... That solved the problem , so now I can have it set to amplified mode and it doesn't rattle, because the foam dampens the vibrations of the case, because there is an amplified sound and the case vibrated...
I have attached the pictures and we used a slightly harder piece of foam, which can then be cut as needed

ATTENTION FOR SAMSUNG Support:
-With the QN900A model, I could record channels on an external SSD disk
(recording, timeshifting... ) and then watched
- Now with the new model QN900B this is no longer possible ???
Please provide an explanation or a solution

The QN900B model still has a problem with the sound, where a slightly more pronounced bass appears ....

Hi, I purchased the Samsung QE65QN800ATXXU last April and have the same issue as everybody else here is describing. I purchased this from Currys who were offering such a discount on an 8K set that it seemed a no brainer to purchase. However, from the minute it was set up it was obvious that there there was something seriously wrong with this set as the vibrations were horrendous. We went back to Currys who at the time gave us the option of a refund or a replacement set. Not knowing about the issues being reported here, we opted for a replacement set on the presumption that this was an isolated issue with this particular set as my other Samsung 4K TV albeit now seven years old is in perfect working order. Low and behold a replacement set was not forthcoming and Currys was not going to get any more of this model and know I know why. Samsung have gone out of their way to be obstructive and continually stated that there was no fault and that the TV was working within the 'prescribed parameters' despite not seeing it or more importantly, hearing it. Eventually, I was asked to submit a video to show what the issue was which I did. Despite the sound distorting horribly at the low end frequency, a Samsung representative called me told me in no uncertain terms that this was perfectly acceptable and there was no issue with the set. Following numerous complaints, an engineer was sent to investigate. Showing my age here but In my day, when someone came to fix an expensive item, they would turn up with a bag of tools ready to do the job. This engineer turned up with a remote control and a mobile phone. After demonstrating the issue, the engineer told me that this was a common occurrence and Samsung had deemed it not to be a fault despite the clearly obvious sound problems but have issued a 'bulletin' to address the issue which the engineer accessed on their phone, tapped a few number into the remote and accessed the 'engineers' menu, changed a value in the set up and within less that two minutes told me that he was done without even having touched the TV. Before they left, tested it to make sure it was fixed and low and behold it wasn't. the engineer did exactly the same thing again with the same result. We were told that a report would be filed and that we would receive a copy which we did, jut a few lines to say the bulletin instructions had been followed and the 'issue still persists'. I didn't realise at the time that Samsung deem 'issue still persists' as meaning that this is as good as it's going to get so lump it and have continually told Currys that the distortion is within their 'specifications' is not classed as a fault. I know now that this obviously means, we have had your money, we don't care and we are not going to do anything about. I'm still a little hazy on the issues here where an expensive product can be manufactured, presumably their is a manufacturers specification which is tested to ensure that the product works properly and that includes an audio test as well as a visual test as in 'award winning sound and vision' which is an absolute joke here. Assming this is the 'spec' they keep rereferring to, what spec then is the bulletin alert ? and when that is changed, what then is the resulting spec when it still doesn't work? My interpretation here is that 'award' wining sound is not longer the object of the game and this would seem to be sell more sound bars . If anyone from Samsung actually reads this, perhaps they could contact me to advise how best I can help spread the word that you don't case about your customers. If terrible sound is what Samsung expect people to put up with if they chuck away a couple of thousand pound on a TV, I expect this to become part of the marketing strategy. How about, award willing picture but forget about the sound, it doesn't matter . Meanwhile, Currys have been less than helpful themselves as they fall back on the adage that if Samsung say there is not fault, there there is no fault with their 'second level' complaints team telling me in writing that I could return the set to the store I bought if from for repair and If they couldn't do it, for a credit note or exchange. They then retracted the offer after I attended the store to make further enquiries , luckily I didn't take the set with me . After more complaints, another offer was made in writing to repair the set which was withdrawn within the hour. You just can't make this stuff up, you pay a premium price for an item which quite clearly has a fault (Samsung, FYI if you need to issue a bulletin to fix something that has left the factory floor and caused a number of customer complaints, it''s a FAULT) but there is nothing you can do about this when Samung say, not its not a fault because we say so. You should be ashamed to put product like this into the market place so again, Samung if you are reading this, work with me to help spread the word that buying LG, Panasonic or Sony is the way forward as quality control is not your middle name nor is customer service.

I had 12 months of hell with Samsung. I mistakenly bought direct from their website which made things even worse. I didn't have a store I could complain to. Samsung's customer service was nonexistent. It's the worse experience I've ever had. They tried this with me saying it's working as it should be and within limits and the sound was awful. It's a design flaw. The engineers that attended all said the same and said they have seen loads of issues and complaints about the same thing on my model, the newer model and sister models. I took my complaint to CEO level and it just ended up back at the same useless customer service unit. In the end I requested all information on my case via a Right of Access to all data and notes held against my case from both Samsung and their 3rd party engineers and I had them by the b@lls then as it was documented Samsung telling the engineers that it's workin within limits even though the engineers had reported the sound was awful. They also tried to change the engineering settings on my TV as well which all they tried to do was reduce the bass to try and stop the vibration. I will never buy Samsung products again and I have owned and upgraded Samsung TV's for the past 15 years but never again. Sony all the way now for me and also buying via John Lewis as their customer service is excellent. As well as the vibration issue, my unit also had to have the screen replaced 3 times as it failed. They were going to swap it again and in the end I escalated into Martin Dawes who were the 3rd party engineers and they spoke the client relationship manager within Samsung and they said they weren't happy to work on my TV again as it was flawed and that's when Samsung finally offered me a full refund. I had started to go down the trading standards route as the TV's sound is not as discribed on Samsung's own website. It is below par to any other TV I have ever owned. That fact it's a £6000-£8000 model as well is a joke. As you say, they are just trying to up sell sound bars or surround systems. Even in my notes I received from Samsung it mentioned if I can afford a £6k-£8k set why is he not using a sound bar or surround sound... It might costs a little money but get a second opinion from a TV repair company and get them to write a report and send that to Currys and Samsung. It's a known issue so they are aware of it. If they don't do anything take it to trading standards as they are selling unfit goods and not sold as described

Just to add.. I also collected evidence from different forums and websites including Samsung own community pages like this and sent screen shots of all the people having the same issue to Samsung and had that ready for Trading Standards as well. I don't have the data anymore as I got rid of it all after I got all my money back but there is a look of evidence out there or people having the same issue. The fact Samsung have said it's not an issue or wide spread issue is most people do have sound bars or surround sound so no one is really using the TV speakers.. It's upsetting that Samsung are still not playing ball on this and not admitting to their failure

I am glad to hear that you eventually got your money back but I know that even with the best case scenario, I won’t get a refund. I also provided Samsung and Curries with a host of screen shots from this forum and others to illustrate my point that this was most definitely a problem and that they were aware of it before I purchased my set. We also copied in the CEO and anybody else whose email address we could get hold of. Nobody cared but we persisted and the complaints team eventually asked us to provide video clips to show the sound distortion. These were just dismissed out of hand and we were again told this was what it was supposed to sound like (My parents had bought a Samsung TV from Sainsbury’s for around £350.00 and the sound on that is infinitely better on my one, not that Samsung cared about that comparison either). The engineer who came admitted that he had done a few of these type of callouts and the alterations made ‘often’ worked and acknowledged that in this case it hadn’t but was very careful to not to use words like fault or problem in his report, choosing to go instead with a rather more neutral ‘the issue still persists’ which any sane and reasonable person can interpret as there is a problem, I heard it but couldn’t fix it with a TV remote control and I’m not authorised to take it apart to see what the real problem is (eight speakers in a really, really thin frame couldn’t possibly be the issue here, could it?). I really don’t know when it became the norm for a customer to report a fault, an engineer looks at it and says ‘the issue still persists’ for the company to interpret this as what you need to do is spend more money than you already have done to get an additional piece of kit to resolve an issue that no other competitor of theirs is having, an issue that you won’t find on any of the cheaper models. Samsung also don’t want to acknowledge that paying over £2,000.00 is what most people would consider to be a ‘premium’ price so maybe expectations are a little higher for performance in that price range despite statistical evidence that between March 2021 and February 2022, less people spent over £1,500.00 on a TV than those who spent £149.00 with the most common being in the £300 - £500 bracket. But no, over £2,000 is not a ‘premium’ price to pay for a Samsung set apparently. Must be doing so well with the sweet, sweet hotel market that they don’t need to worry about the customer (every hotel I have stayed in the last few years all seem to have Samsung sets hanging on their walls). Again showing my age but, wasn’t the customer always supposed to be right? Sometimes misinformed but ultimately always right. Those days are long gone it would seem, contempt seems to be the order of the day now.

If I had been able to spend £6,000 on the next model up, I would have been fuming as well. We just purchased a house so a £6,000 tv was unfortunately well out of my price range and when I first saw this one, it was discounted to £3,000 so was still a no go at that price to keep the peace at home so was really looking for a reasonable alternative for around the £2,000 mark. However, it was reduced again by another £800 in the sale last Easter. There is an old saying in that if it seems to good to be true, there is a catch and this should have been a big red flag but the picture on the display model was stunning and in the store, they have it hooked up to a sound bar so didn’t get to hear the standalone sound quality.

We approached both Samsung and Curries with the evidence and of the two, curries have been the most sympathetic and had Samsung held up their hand and admitted that this is a known issue and a definite problem, Curries could have got a ‘returns’ code and given me a refund. But no, £2,000 is not a price bracket that comes with an expectation of higher quality and I should just put up with the inferior sound or buy a sound bar as a sticking plaster. I already have a Yamaha surround amp and yes, it doesn’t distort when playing through that but if you just want to watch TV fairly late at night and don’t want to wake the neighbours, it’s not an option to have it on all of the time (Funnily enough, Benidorm on Netflix was one of the worst examples of when it would distort). At this price (or any price really) having reasonable sound without an add on is one of the very least things you expect from a company who advertises that their product has ‘Award winning Sound & Vision’.

But on the better news front, my wife called the Curries repair number from the email where they had twice stated that would be willing to look at it with a view to repairing the issue (remember, this was offered twice and also recanted twice). To our surprise, they eventually agreed to look at it and actually sent someone to pick it up on Saturday only for us to get another email from the Curry complaints team today to say they would not be willing to do anything.

So bottom line now is the TV is with Currys (albeit without the connection box, remote, stand or cables, apparently they don’t take these as they ‘often’ go missing), it was wrapped in an ill fitting piece of bubble wrap and ratcheted to the side of a delivery van (33 items also on board left to deliver, what could possible go wrong with this scenario?). As much I loved the picture quality, this experience has really soured the joy of owning a nice TV and part of me is hoping that it doesn’t make the journey in one piece but I’ll let you know how this works out. I hope that nobody else has to go through this, It’s an absolute nightmare.

I have just spent one and a half hours on the phone to Samsung customer support reporting yet again the problem below, the call dropped after three quarters of an hour, so had to go back and start all over again, so three quarters of an hour later what have I learned, that because this problem was not reported within 14 days (It was attached to the stand so I did not know there was a problem).

I bought a 65” QN700B NeoQLED 8k from Samsung on the 12th of May this year it was not mounted on the wall till very recently as the redecoration was not finished.

The back panel vibrates so badly that that we cannot enjoy any programs.

I have taken the TV off the wall and discover the back panel is not aligned with the speaker on the right hand side, (see video) I am not sure that is the cause but it should not be like that, if you cannot resolve the vibration this TV will not be of merchantable quality and I will be expecting a full refund.

I was informed 3 days ago by email I would be contacted within this period, I have had no response, the television sound has worsened. This is really the worst customer service I have come across. The tv looks great but sounds awful, is someone going to solve this.

Well, sounds Silly but had the same issue, with a QN900a QLED TV. In My Case, it was a thin tape on the side, heat vents, which were actually the side firing speakers of this Model, kinda funny, cause it was an amazing difference after removing this. This tape should have been removed upon installation, as it was rattling from beiing covered up. Don't know if this the same instance, but worth a look. Good Luck..!

I am desperate to find a solution for this problem in my QN700B here in Brazil. The problem still persists after 3 technical visits. The speakers were replaced, the settings were changed in the service menu as per Samsung instructions, lots of adhesive tape were added everywhere, the speakers and the rear cover are now full of double-sided tape. Even with the rear cover out, the sound distortion persists. In my opinion, there's a lot of resonance with something inside and this is not fixable. But I'd be thankful if you could provide more details about your fix. Here is my TV as of today when the technician executed everything that was done before and in the end the problem is still not solved.

I am returning here to provide a feedback about my situation and the end result.

My 2022 55" QN700B had since the first day of use a terrible sound. Low frequencies would cause something inside the TV to reverberate and cause a terrible sound distortion even at low volume levels.

My first complain to the Samsung Service is that when a client like me have a recurrent problem, they send different technicians each visit and I had to explain everything again and again. It was stressful and unnecessary.

Speakers were replaced under warranty but did not resolve the problem. I continued to open support tickets mentioning the problem.

In one visit, the technician came with instructions provided by someone at Samsung and he altered several settings related to the internal amplifier, only accessible under the Service Menu. The result is that the low frequencies were almost disabled and did not resolve the issue. Sound was worse.

In a visit, the technician was instructed to apply tape in almost everything that he could possibly see in the rear panel when the cover was open. A mess of tape and no result.

Opened a new support ticket and the technician came and opened the rear cover without the special tool that Samsung provides. I tried to argue that he should use the special tool for opening the panel, but he used a screwdriver and clearly had no experience in opening Samsung TVs that have a thin cover with no screws. The result: two pieces that are glued at the factory in the rear panel and that are essential to keep the rear cover flat when closed were now flimsy. He used double-sided tape to try to fix them but the bulge was there.

The technician then was instructed to use double sided tape around all borders to secure the rear panel. I did not like it

Then the situation become worse: every time I opened new support tickets, they were closed by the local service representative with the status "problem fixed" and description "it's a characteristic of the product", without contacting me and without sending a technician.

Samsung website has a link to "write to the CEO", I filled a form where I explained my situation and that the normal support service was unable to resolve the issue.

Finally someone from above the support service entered in contact via phone. This person directly contacted the support service representative and asked that a technician were sent to assess the issue. They sent the manager of the technicians, someone with many years of experience.

I could see his frustration with what he saw, but he was contained and did not gave me much support. He registered everything in photos and videos and told me he would send it to the person that was monitoring my case.

I was contacted again by the person who was monitoring my case and she said they were considering the options. At this point I said I was accepting a refund or replacement. She said refunds were out of question (but by Brazilian law, it's the client who decides about it). And I said that I would not accept a replacement for the same QN700B model because I had found many other complaints about this model related to sound issues.

A few days later she contacted me to make an offer: replace my defective 55"QN700B (2002) for a 65" QN800D (2024). I asked for some time to research about it and we ended the call.

A few clicks later I was convinced it was a generous offer. The 65" QN800D costs 3 times more than an old qn700b. I wold have the inconvenience to fit a 65" TV inside a room where a 55" was already big enough.

I accepted the exchange and a few days later the TV arrived. I had to agree that TV should be installed by the technician the moment it arrived.

QN800D is INCREDIBLY BRIGHT, the sound is 70W, it has extremely quick responses. I love almost everything of it. The remote control is smaller, flimsy, lighter, definitely worse that the more squared, firm, longer and ergonomic remote from previous models.

I am very glad Samsung honored the warranty and definitely was not expecting the end result would be that now I have a TV that costs 3 times more than the model it replaced.
