I bought a Q90T a week ago and I'm noticing weird scanlines that go up from the bottom of the screen. It only shows on certain colours for example dark gray.

This is in game mode with game motion plus off.

Turning game motion plus on makes the problem go away but I don't like game motion plus on so wish to keep it off.

If you can't get to a uniform colour then try this instead:

Try this:

Go to HDMI 4 with your console turned OFF so it's on the source screen. Turn game mode on and disable game motion plus. You should see the scan lines now.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Here's an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/4kTV/comments/jsf41k/what_are_these_lines_called_and_why_do_they/

- Scanlines in game mode, game motion plus off

- Local dimming in game mode (not effective compared to movie picture mode)

I'm having the same issues on the 90T system. I bought an Xbox Series X and when in game mode + VRR I see the same horizontal scanning lines moving up and down the screen. Additionally, I am experiencing gamma issues which dissapear if I turn off VRR off.

I see a lot of consumers struggling with these issues. When can we expect a firmware update Samsung?

55"Q90T here: I've contacted Samsung here in Canada 3 times now, each time they deny me speaking with someone from Technical Support, instead my only options are Customer Service or their respective Manager(s). I've offered to document the exact issue, to provide any details and testing with the hope of engaging Engineering of some sort. The best the Manager could suggest was to set the PS4 Pro or PS5 to RGB Limited... SMH (obviously this had no impact at all and predictably muted the colours). They are now insisting I have the mainboard replaced by a 3rd party, so they can rule out their "Step 1", before looking deeper into a possible software issue. This is after explaining to them and confirming the following:

ONLY when you enable Game Mode , (with Game Motion Plus disabled) can you see visible rolling scan lines. I can observe this on the PS4 Pro, PS5, and SNES Mini (so far). All other Picture modes do not suffer from rolling scan lines, nor do the internal apps like Netflix or YouTube.

However, with Game Mode enabled and Game Motion Plus enabled, these scan lines disappear.

The problem is, with GMP you add input lag and image processing, which defeats the purpose of this TV; to buy a gaming TV with the lowest input lag. I'm not sure visible scrolling scan lines is an acceptable trade off for low input lag.

And now we hear of so many others reporting the exact same issue, this time with the XBOX SX & VRR enabled.

Oddly enough, i do not have this issue with the Nintendo Switch at all. Its the only console I can have Game Mode enabled, GMP disabled, and no scanlines at all. Input lag is excellent as you don't need GMP to hide the scanlines.

Like many others, it goes without saying I've tried a plethora of different HDMI cables (including a fibre optic HDMI to rule out interference), tried all HDMI ports, different TVs, even different rooms to rule out power interference.

Happy Friday.

Done. I can see still see the lines, but they are not scrolling upward. This happens to be the same behaviour as when playing the Nintendo Switch, (with Game Mode enabled, GMP disabled). As soon as I power on the PS5 however, the lines start scrolling upward.

**I've since learned something interesting over the weekend regarding these scrolling lines of sorrow. On the PS5; the game Dirt 5 can be set to Performance Mode, which triggers the PS5 into 4K @ 120Hz mode. Low and behold, the scrolling lines disappear! (Info on the TV confirms its running at "3840x2160/120p" and also going into Settings on the PS5 which reports the Video Output Information as "3840x2160 - 120Hz). Same with 1080x1920 - 120Hz, no scrolling lines! GMP cannot be enabled with 120Hz, so we know its not that making them disappear.

So I ask the internet, are we looking at an issue with 60Hz and Game Mode Enabled, (GMP disabled)? Does Game Motion Plus eliminate the scrolling lines because the GMP's Motion Interpolation is bumping the 60Hz single to 120Hz?

It would appear having a source like the PS5 output at the TVs native 120Hz eliminates the scrolling lines.

Unfortunately there is no way to configure the PS5 to always output @ 120Hz , as you can with the XBoxSX. So its only beneficial on a game by game basis. Also while playing Dirt 5 @ 4K/120, the 90T would not output HDR, Info on the TV confirmed this and frankly the colours on Dirt 5 in this mode were really dark like gamma was going nuts, (similar to the reports of folks using 4K 120Hz VRR on the XboxSX and their reporting of very dark, colour & gamma issues).

I've heard that VRR on Series X also makes the scroll lines appear.

Even at 60hz with GMP off it shouldn't be showing the scroll/scan lines at all. I really hope it's not a hardware issue and it's fixable via software.

In my experience with the Q90T and the Series X, disabling VRR stops the scrolling lines and also "fixes" the over blown contrast / gamma issues. I've left my console settings at 4K, 120hz and am playing with VRR disabled. Not noticed any tearing in Ori and the Will of the Wisps or Gears 5 multiplayer so far (only 120hz games I have) so gonna leave it as is and hope Samsung are working on a fix if it isn't hardware limited. Having said that, when I booted up Assassin's Creed Valhalla earlier, I noticed some intense dimming in the screen when facing a bright / dark spots. Wasn't gradual (no auto brightness control) it was literally like setting the brightness from 15 to 50 and back again as I swung the camera around. Switching out of HDR and back in fixed it though. Hope it isn't another issue that needs looking at.

Yep on my 2023 TV that I just got put VRR on you get rolling lines turn it off. They go away. You can have every other setting on but VRR VRR is the cause. So what small amount of logic I have left in my brain and the fact that multiple people across different models across different years and across different brands at some points that I've seen it's safe to say Xbox need to sort this s*** out. It's been 3 years and still haven't fixed this either they can't fix it with a software and they have to wait until the next Xbox come out I believe it's 100% Xbox issue
