Thanks for your reply.

I bought the Samsung remote off the Amazon US site for under $ 14. Identical to my 2014 remote. It works with most functions. Trial and error. It does not work with everything. I can hit the multi color magic button to pull up the screen showing all the apps. I need to go the Samsung One remote to enter the apps. The very bottom middle button, a forward arrow, actually stops and starts play on streaming apps. The menu button gives me quick, no nonsense access to menu functions. Also, it is easier to go back to scenes during streaming. I just wrote a blistering review on the Best Buy site, Q 60T review. Expect it to be published in the next few days. I went into my Sonos menu and they repeat three tines for emphasis, the Samsung One will not work. They suggest a fix. I went to the TV, then Univeral remote, followed everything that supposedly changed the RF/IR. Didn't work.

The exact wording from the Sonos e- manual " The Samsung One Remote does not output IR signals by default, like many other remotes."

Optical audio no volume control

My TV is UE 50 RU7402. My speakers are Edifier R1280DB.

If I connect them through optical (toslink), I can't control the volume with Samsung's One remote. When I press volume up or down, the tv shows on screen the word "optical" and nothing happens.

Is there a way to control the volume?

If I understand correctly, when I search through TV settings it is possible to control speakers or AV receivers from other brands when connected with optical cable. So the optical connection isn't "fixed". Why not having it "open" for all brands?

Is this going to change in the future with an update?

P.S. If I connect them through bluetooth I can control the volume with One remote just fine. But I prefer the sound through optical. Also, I have to re-pair the speakers every time I power on the TV.

Same issue here.

HK Soundsticks connected via optical...I can either choose between no volume control at all(optical, where no speakers in the tv are on, and volume just says 'optical'), or control of the tv-speakers, and no regulation through the optical connection of the soundsticks 'tv-speakers'. ???

This is not a solution. Bluetooth gives lower quality sound.

As I mentioned in my first post, I tried the bluetooth connection and I have volume control through Samsung's remote. But, that way you have lower quality sound and you have to reconnect the speakers every time you close the tv or the speakers. It doesn't have an option for automatic connection (priority) with the speakers whenever they are on or in range.

The problem is why Samsung has "dynamic" optical connection for AV receivers and not powered speakers? What's the point?

Also, I have contacted customers service, they told me that they will answer me through email because technically it's a complicated question, and never got an answer. So, don't wait for a solution. You can draw the same conclusion if you search the net for the same problem. It goes years back.

Sorry for the long post.

I followed the guide you posted. Weird results. At the same time, I had the satellite box connected through hdmi to tv. Here is what I did:

1) Exactly what the guy in the video did and the only difference was that now + and - symbols appear above the word optical. Also, with every press of the volume button there is a lag. But, still no volume control.

2) With the speakers connected through optical cable directly to the tv and powered on, I changed the sound source to optical. I then went to universal remote settings - new device - home theater - search for the brand: i typed "Edifier" - click "view more brands" - "Edifier" appears - click on "Edifier" - click on "Optical" - "Power Test" - this time clicked "No", now you have 3 more times to make the Power Test - clicked second time "Power Test" and pushed the volume buttons on the remote. On the little window the live program from satellite was playing and I saw that with every press of the button the sat box's volume bar appeared and volume control was working. So, I thought I'll have the volume of the speakers to a fixed number and I'll use the volume bar of the sat-box. - I pressed "Yes". Went back to live program to test the volume buttons and no matter what I pushed the volume only got louder and the sat-box's volume didn't appear like it did on the little window.

Tried again 2-3 times, every time I clicked on "Yes" at different number of attempts of the "Power Test". Each time weird things were happening: volume going only down, crackling sounds, I was increasing the volume and it was going back down on its own...

3) This time I didn't power the speakers on. Followed the steps above and used all 4 "Power Tests". At the 4th, a new button appears that says "Enter Model Number" - clicked on that - typed "R1280DB" - clicked "View more Models" or something like that - "R1280DB" appears - clicked that and now I had a new set of 4 attempts - at the second or third attempt the speakers powered on so I clicked "Yes" - tested the volume buttons and again weird things were happening but most of the times the speakers were powering off.

If you have the time, when your speakers arrive, test for yourself and post the results.

By the way, great speakers. They need a little "breaking in" period but their sound is really good.

Hello there. Before I bought my new edifier speakers today, I searched for the brand "edifier" in my universal controller belonging to the ru7100. When I first time searched it, it didn't show up, but when I pressed ''show more'', I saw the edifier brand and I realized that the univarsal controller can works with this brand. (than i exit, not setup) Then I buy the speaker today, connected it with bluetooth and tried it. (the sound output was very low except for the spotify application) I will try it with an optical cable tomorrow, but interestingly, this time when i wrote the "edifier" on the add universal remote list, it could not find the brand. Although I clicked on "show more", the edifier was no longer available. Hey! Where are you?!

1- Where do I make mistakes and why can't I see the edifier brand in my universal controller list on RU7100?

2- Will connecting with an optical cable increase the volume of my edifier speakers? When I connect to TV via Bluetooth, the sound is really low. (sound is perfect when i connect bluetooth with iPhone)

1) Did you follow the steps above? If yes, then I don't know why "Edifier" doesn't show in the search results. Maybe you need to reset the TV, because I noticed that when I tinker with the settings for more than 5' the TV acts weird.

2) I can't say what is causing the low volume from bluetooth. Have you tried after connecting the speakers through bluetooth, to increase the volume with Edifier's remote (you may need to change the battery that they came with)? Also have you tried the volume ***** on the speakers?

The optical cable gives better sound than bluetooth. Good luck.

I tried it again today. Edifier was still missing from the brand list. Finally, I returned the TV to factory settings. Nonsensically, the edifier brand is back in list. Yes, I could find him now. It was really strange.

I connected my audio system with an optical cable today. While it was connected with the optical cable, it did not allow me to control the sound with the samsung controller in any way. The volume is 15% higher than Bluetooth, but still inadequate. In particular, the sound from HDMI sources is very low. This speaker can do much more!! Ahh Samsung !!!

I said I would manage my Edifier speakers with at least the "universal" remote, but it didn't work. I tested 6 times. In none, the control did not dominate the edifier. Finally, I couldn't find my model number in the enter model number section. I even tried the model numbers of other best seller edifier devices, but could not find any of them.

Result: My speakers are now successfully connected with an optical cable, but the TV remote cannot manage the volume and my maximum volume is too low.

Will I be able to produce a solution?

I am very sad. I promised myself that I wouldn't buy a Samsung product, now I will be more determined to keep this promise..

When you have the sound source to TV speakers, go to the sound settings and disable Auto Volume. Then change back to Bluetooth or optical. Sorry, but I can't think anything else that causes the low volume effect.

A solution to all our problems could be a DAC that has hdmi input and analog output. But that is an extra cost with no guaranteed success and for something that Samsung could solve with a firmware update.

Yes, you are right. I'll try what you say for the volume. Thank you very much for your interest.

I have now accepted this volume. The more important thing for me right now is to control my edifier speaker with the universal remote of my 58RU7100 TV. Although Edifier is on the list, I cannot find any product. Is there any other device with the same infrared signals? I set it up so I can control my Edifier e25HD speaker with the samsung controller.

thanks again.

Solution.

I spoke with BB geek squad. Familiar with the issue. The new Samsung One remote won't work with the optical. Older Samsung remotes will. Both my DTV remotes and my 2014 Samsung remote with magic button work perfectly.

He explained something about the One Remote doesn't have RF or something like that. Added it's crazy. He said it is set up to work with Bluetooth, but the sound degrades.

My recommendation. Get the older Samsung Remote that has the magic button. Mine controls all features better than the one remote. Hit the colored magic button, and the Tizen screen shows up in the same format.
I bought a spare a few years ago on Amazon for $ 10. I think I'll try to get a few more,

thanks for your answer. What is the exact model of the controller? I thought there was a problem with the software, not with the remote. When you press the remote, do you see the optic text on the screen exactly?

With both the Samsung remote and the Direct TV remote, when I press volume the optic circle is displayed, with the word optical. Nothing else. By that I mean with my 2014 Samsung 3D TV, pricey, pressing volume showed the sound level numerically with each press. Mine is the budget Q60 T, 65 inch. You may have a TV with more features.

I thought about making the arc connection with my Bang and Olufsen BeoStagecSoundbar, , but when I used ARC with my prior Samsung, it was pure misery of one cutoff after another. Worked fine with my streaming on the Apple TV, but with Direct TV, it actually kept shutting the TV off.

I'm curious what Samsung will tell me. I have a trouble ticket number.

The Samsung One remote is factory set to work with Bluetooth and RF (radio frequency) signals. The majority of remote controls work with IR (infrared) signals. The One remote does have IR but you have to enable it. That's what you do when you go to the "universal remote" settings - you choose a device and the remote enables IR for that device.

If you read my third post you'll see that the One remote does power the speakers on but it acts weird. For example, I press volume up and the volume goes down, I press volume down and the volume goes down and then raises to max, the speakers power on and off, etc.

If you have the One remote paired with another device (I have it paired with sat box) you might notice that the red light on the remote blinks from time to time without someone pressing any button. Sometimes the blink is rapid.

Bottom line: It's bad implementation and Samsung hasn't fixed it for years, and I don't think they ever will. Just a thought for future shopping.

P.S. Thank you very much for your input. Unfortunately the remote you proposed in my country costs 40 euros. Also, if I buy a new remote I will try another brand because I am fed up with Samsung's reaction to this problem. Lastly, it gets on my nerves that something that can be fixed with a firmware update, I will have to solve it buy buying something extra.
