I can confirm @BAMozzy's guidance. I have too just ordered my USB stick with firmware T-JZMDEUC-1239.1 for my KS TV (seemingly 8 versions higher that the latest OTA available to me). They say I will have it in a few days. I just used the Chat service on Samsung support as advised. No problem, they must be getting quite a few calls as I did not have to explain beyond asking for the HLG over HDMI firmware update. Strange that at present it is only available using a USB stick.

So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

...

Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed.

Well yes..Samsung stated last year that they would supper HLG via an update. Not like Samsung to let us down is it: famed for its keenly focussed customer service.. not. Paid a lot for my UE55KS7000 so would be narked to have no hlg support

Ironic really given they were the first / only manufacturer at the time who said their sets at the time (2016) could HLG with firmware upgrade. "Could" maybe the operative work ie not Would. Maybe in 2020. My recent experience with Samsung through my TV and previously Samsung s2 watch (still no Samsung pay) has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Eventually their star will fall and their poor customer service will be a key factor

This will come back to bite them.

There is one thing I think Samsung may not have thought of and that is the 2015 European Consumer Regulations. It clearly states that an item has to met its description as advertised, if not it is classed as miss selling under those regs ( it's worth reading as it is laid out in normal speak not law speak ). I returned a Samsung JS8000 that when I asked if it was fully HDR and was told at Curries that it was, and then found a few months later it could not play Netflix HDR, after some argument over miss selling and a threat of court I received a full refund.

Same here, if any one bought a Samsung 2016 TV and had read that article anywhere ( I saw it in What HI FI) and it influenced your decision and you can show that article, then you would have a case of miss selling under those regs. The regs are there to protect us against any company makeing false claims about their products in any forum ( don't know how some face creams get away with it ). So Samsung I will be posting this everywhere I can think of, if you do not honour you promise to update 2016 TV's with HGL update. It will not cost you anything as there are no royalty fee's for HGL, and you do not really want to show how greedy you are as a company if you do not up date us, which will also show and how you treat your customers.

If you agree please thumbs up me.

Paul

Look at the 2015 European Consumer law about miss selling. To imply that it could or will do something at it can not is miss selling under the regs, and as such you can ask for a full refund, from the retailer qouting the regs. Have a look at them just search goole for them and know you rights.

That is also classed as advertising and certainly helped make mt decision to but a Samsung!

This

http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinion/hybrid-log-gamma-what-is-it-2947378

This was in trusted reveiws in Dec 2016

HLG is currently included in the ITU-R BT.2100 specification for programme production and exchange. It’s expected to be ratified into the DVB specification before the end of the year, at which point broadcasters and screen manufacturers can begin to firm up road maps. But where does that leave TV buyers in the meantime. Can you expect 4K screens bought today to be firmware updateable?

We put out a call. Understandably, currently TV manufacturers have little to say on the subject as yet. Only Samsung, out of all those polled, maintained that all its UHD HDR 2016 models could be firmware updated to support HLG. “All of Samsung’s 2016 HDR TVs will be firmware upgradeable to support Hybrid Log-Gamma broadcast HDR once it is widely available,” we were told emphatically.

Read more at http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinion/hybrid-log-gamma-what-is-it-2947378#qFEXGXyYaYjuoUs7.99

Funny how LG and Panasonic are both showing support for their 2016 (Panasonic 2015) models.

I purchased my 2016 model TV as it supported all these technologies, I'm very disapointed to hear it isn't planned to support HLG. Considering this is a future technology, its only a matter of time before more services start to use this.

There appears no technical reason why Samsung wont add support for this and I'm interested if people are going to take them to court for not adding a feature as promised to customers.

The iplayer article also states that the Samsung models listed require firmware update :

"Please note that Samsung devices listed are awaiting an imminent firmware update to support our UHD streams and may not be updated in time for the release of Blue Planet II in UHD on Sunday 10 December".

I recently purchased MU6400 model which is listed and certainly cannot access the HDR UHD yet, am on Beta version of Iplayer but have also checked the standard one just in case. I've heard of a few with other makes who have got it fine and I can play HLG content on Youtube. No update coming up via support for me anyway. I've been pretty impressed with the TV but bit of a mess on this issue! Whilst I have Skyq their version on catch up is the standard dynamic range UHD.
