Android updates

I have an elderly friend who has a Tab E tablet.

This currently has 4.4.4 android version.

This is now so out of date that many required apps will not install/not run.

I believe (?) that the os can be revised to version 7. Despite approaches to many 'specialist' tablet repair shops, they insist that this cannot be done. If any one is aware of a source where this work can be done - I would appreciate any useful info.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and help.

Polonut

Hi there I'm afraid the only way you could possibly update the ipad now is via the internet a pc and a data cable. Because the tablet is too old to automatically download an update you will need to download onto a pc or laptop and transfer the data over. Note that this does mean that I believe. any guarantee or anything will expire and if it goes wrong samsung will refuse to fix it

look on xda developers forum because if it can be done it will be written up there with a link to a newer ROM and instructions needed to flash it.

Hi there @Polonut

I would strongly advise against forcing an update on your tablet, as this could potentially have a negative affect on the tablet as this is an older version and it's components were not made to support a higher version than the latest software (which is 4.4.4). It may be a good time to upgrade perhaps, and get a newer tablet with cooler features!

With respect, maybe they cannot afford a new tablet. Custom ROMs from xda developer forums can extend the useful life of older devices. Even if it only bumps them up to Android 6 at least the apps in Play Store would install and run again

Thanks everyone - I know it can be done, however attempts at finding a capable person has proven impossible. Game over I am afraid. Will recommend friend to buy new tablet.
