New Dex turns off if tablet screen is off

Hi, since the last update, when using Dex on an external screen I cannot turn off tablet screen leaving the external screen off.

Is there a setting that allows me to turn off tablet's screen while watching a movie on the external screen with dex?

Do you have a keyboard with the tablet? If so press dex button on it and dex will run on your external monitor.

"Also Make sure you are in tablet mode on your actual tablet. Either swipe up from the bottom on the tablet or press the (recent apps) key on your keyboard (if using the Samsung keyboard) to get to your overview mode, or move/swipe to the left away from the Desktops, but to your main tablet interface. Usually your 'Desktop 1' is your external monitor and your 'Desktop 2' is your tablet (or vice versa).

You should now have your tablet in tablet mode, and your monitor in Dex mode."

I don't have an external keyboard. I use the tablet screen as the input. Then if I run a movie on the external screen, and I press the power button to turn off the tablet screen, also the external screen stops playing and goes black

Try the steps provided with desktop 1 and 2 and make sure its in tablet mode.

I think I tried with having tablet mode on tablet while running the dex on the external, but still, both screens turned off when pressing the power button and playing a movie on the external

On the tablet when you tap Recent apps and the Desktop 1 / Desktop 2 appears tap to the left of it. If you tap on the tablet's desktop the tablet is in Dex mode. You want the tablet to be in tablet mode to just switch of the tablet display.

I have a similar issue to the one brought up. It’s 2026 and Samsung is still in 2015. DeX works, but it works as if it’s a new feature without the necessary settings to make it a viable solution for real work. KVM switches don't work, and you can't make the tablet screen automatically turn off when you connect it to an external monitor. Ironically, everything shuts off when you close the cover (Hall sensor), even DeX when I need it! I know i can turn it off but I need it when i use it in mobile mode.
There should be settings allowing you to tune DeX to your style of work, and yet again Samsung follows in Apple's footsteps and cuts corners. It's like Samsung employees don't use their own products and don't have any idea how to make them for people who actually work and need a mobile solution. Corporations are a hamper on progress.

Yeah unfortunately the dex functioned great until these last two or three updates. How Samsung can take a perfectly functioning device and break it is beyond me. And it's made 100x worse by the fact they are trying to imitate apple, considering Samsung users by their products because they hate apple, & because Apple sucks, as these recent updates are testament to. Been using Samsung for over 20 years and hopefully once they started losing customers like me they'll get the point. It's a shame they have come to this
