Hello,

I am looking for a tablet for note taking. It needs to be around 8" in size, as my Tab S7 is too large for this task. The only 8" I see in Samsung's lineup is the Tab A9. I know that it does not come with its own stylus, but can it be used with a third-party one, like the one from the S7 or the Kindle Scribe's?

As you know, there is no "official" stylus for the A9 tablet. There are 3rd party ones out there that claim to work. However, if you damage your screen as a result, then pop goes your warranty.

Here is what I have tested.

The Tab S7 stylus does not work.

The Kindle Scribe stylus does not work.

The one that does work is a huge one I have bought a few years ago, that replaces a finger and is almost as thick as one. It is is too thick for writing.

The tablet is going back, it's a shame that Samsung does not have a proper 8" tablet.

Yeah, I'm having a similar issue. I already have the Galaxy Tab A9 which so far as been an awesome tablet. It's compacted mobile and efficient for wide range of applications. Problem is the fact that it doesn't support S-Pen. What is a third party stylus which works effective with no delay? So far I've tried S 21 pen, Universal Stylus Pen, and Evach. I thought a Logitech one would suffice but I don't want to spend a pretty penny for it not to work at all. Only achievable goal for me is taking notes quickly.

From what I saw, the Tab A9 screen does not have the technology to support the narrow end styluses like the one with the S7. The only one that worked was an old one the size of a small finger, that emulates said finger. Not sure if it is good enough for you.

The post above that ended with a " So Samsung, has proper 8 inch tablets with S-Pen compatibility" has only listed models that are not for sale for some time, so as of today, Samsung doesn't have such a model.

I just got a Samsung Tab 9+, 11" which didn't come with a Stylus but but the person who set up my plan said they have a 3rd party stylus that works. Upon searching, I saw a $27 one with EMR & it is "supposed" to work with the 9+. I see others that use capacitive technology. They are cheaper. So I may get one of those. But the EMR one blocks it from registering if you rest your palm on the screen. That sounds much more intuitive. If it works. Anyone?

Hi, I have samsung A9 tablet, too. 8" compact size. Today I bought a TypeC rechargeable universal stylus pen at average quality and feature, I only expect it to work as a finger, not having ultra drawing specifications . And I tested on my samsung note lite 10 phone and it worked well as a high sensitive finger as it's own Spen quality, After I tried it on A9 tablet and it failed. First when I tilt it tab respond some movements. After I watched youtube videos, I tried to make the tablet recognize the pen by touching every where , it was silly, but I tried my chance. It worked at some angels but not properly, after I install an app from Google play to make the pen connect to tab. Some brand's own pen setup app,I was just trying to heck the tab, It said connect your pen to tab by cable, and i made the connection by typeC cable one end in pen's charge socket, the other end in tab's, . App didn't respond for further settings of course and I closed it, but tab responded well. Now when I connect the pen to Samsung A9 tab by TypeC cable it works as the way it should be, as a perfect finger, same performance as on the phone. 😁 when I disconnect the cables, it sometimes works sometimes just with a tilt. So the question is, what's the difference between tablet and phone touching settings? Pen works well as an alternate finger on phone, on tablet only by cable connection, in short problem is not on hardware part it is on software part, some settings or adjustments or disable/ enable issue. Let's find out!!! And if there is a solution already all around, please let me know,

However, it is clear to me the A9+ has not software support for Hand writing recognition. It seems Samsung reserves this for the S series devices. For me this is quite disappointing and I am contemplating sending this machine back to Amazon and looking for an S series that I can afford. I should have purchased the S6 on the Secret Sale a week ago 😞

Hi All,

In my previous post I had just purchased the Galaxy Tab A9+ and I discovered some of the limitations of the A series compared to the S series. I have an S20+ phone but I have never stretched my budget to the Ulimate series phone with the stylus. Likewis, I didn't want to waste a lot of money on a tablet that's main purpose is watching movies while travelling long haul. That said, I am interested in seeing if the A9+ is more than just a movie and media display unit. I have an Adonit acitve stylus (rechargable battery) and have found it can be easily used with the A9+. The secret is to adjust the keyboard input from touching the keys to using the Stylus. This is easily done in the Keyboard settings for either the default Samung or the Google Keyboard. I am currently using the Samsung and I have found the hand writing recognigion quite good with stylus or finger.

If you have an S series tablet it has more Styus fuctionality for sure but for simple writing to text, the A9+ with the Adonit styus is quite good. The Adonit pen is good for graphics too but then so is my finger 😉.

Of course for this post I am actually typing on my A9+ tablet. I have spent the money on a Dell K7321W Keyboard and Mouse combo and have these linked to my A9+. They work pefectly. Now my low end table has become a workstation. I have the M365 suite installed ... of course I won't expect too much from a machine with limited RAM.

Regarding your issue with resting your hand, the screen is sensitive to any touch. So resting or contacting the screen will of course be an issue.

The more you use it the easier it gets. Practice makes Perfect!
