Hello, posting this here because it took me a while to figure this out. These instructions work if you have the French Canada keyboard cover, but they should work if you replace French with your language.

The French keyboard cover was the only one offered for Canada, even for users who want English as their primary language. The key bindings differ from the ones printed on the keyboard cover. This is especially annoying if you want to use a "?" or "/" or a host of other special characters mapped to different keys than the symbols printed on them.

The physical keyboard layout is different from the onscreen keyboard, which explains why the keys are screwed up. Even Samsung support couldn't figure it out.

The following steps resolve this issue: In Settings --> General Management --> Samsung Keyboard settings

Languages and types: Add both Francais(CA) and English(CA) and set them to QWERTY (this allows you to use the French keyboard layout but have the input language set to English).

Auto replace: English(CA)

Suggest text corrections: English(CA)

These settings make the onscreen and keyboard cover behave properly. Use the "Lang" button on the cover to toggle between the English and French input languages.

Yes, it worked. However, you will need to know the English (CA) qwerty by memory for what keys to use, i.e. for "?" you need to press the É on the book cover keypad if you have a French keypad.

My roommate bought a Samsung tablet and then shortly after had some family issues and didn’t get actually using the folio case until recently and we’ve been finding much the same issues as many have spoken of here. Your suggestions fixed 90% of my problems it appears but there’s still a few keys that don’t want to work such as the curly braces, did you come across the solution for that by chance?

Some characters, like the curly braces, can only be accessed by holding down the "Alt Gr" key and the key in question. These keys are easy to identify because they have three different characters printed on them. The "Alt Gr" key is on the bottom right of the keyboard.

Still have a bit more testing to do but this appears to have solved pretty much all the issues that we were having with my roommates keyboard we both very much appreciate the contributions of everyone on the forum on this topic. I have found a couple of issues when using a Terminal application to secure shell onto a Linux machine, but I'm not certain that that is any longer an issue with the keyboard itself or the tablet and more likely an issue with the Terminal application, everything else, however, seems to be functioning perfectly now that it has been correctly, set up as per your instructions and using the alt GR key.

I also will chime in that I spent several hours with Samsung support on this topic, and never was found a solution, except to be told to return the keyboard which obviously the way things played out was over a year ago now. Apparently they don't use knowledge base is like when I used to work in IT over the last 25 years.

Samsung is beyond ridiculous for this. This ***** would never happen on Apple. If it was not for this post, I would have returned this keyboard. How ridiculous is it, with the 90% of the country english speaking, you have to download the English FR pack to make the keyboard register what is printed on the keyboard, AND keep the auto correction and suggestions to Enligsh CAD. Only Samsung, JoKe

thanks for your post. Unfortunately I just got the new Tab S10+ and the Book Cover Slim with Ai key does not type the correct characters in most of the symbol keys with and without shift key held plus the shift-3 and shift-6 keys. I setup as per your instuctions but, no difference.

This was the same problem I had with my Tab S6! What a pathetic company. Especially in Canada.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The solution is split up across a couple of posts. Make sure that you've got everything set as indicated in the past and then use the alt key to get the third character on the keys. Once I did that and installed Canadian English, which was not installed the keyboard is working. Normally it appears in my testing if you really need more help, I can condense it all into one message and add some photos if that's helpful.

The 3rd character printed on the right side of the key can be accessed by pressing "Alt Gr" + the key. The shift key works normally and accesses the character printed on the top of the key or capitalization for letters.

If you don't see the "Alt Gr" look on the right bottom side of the keyboard beside the "LANG" key.

Still, this is simply a poor design by Samsung and shouldn't be this painful.

Yes, I totally agree. I was just replying to the last poster (I thought) to say that basically all the steps outlined across multiple posts you made worked very well for me with the addition of using the Alt Gr key. Now that it's working, I don't get to use her tablet anymore. I have to use my old iPad mini 4. 😉 Thanks for the follow up! My roommate is very happy that she can use her tablet now that she has time and it's functioning. I've actually considered getting one. They're really nice little tablet but I have unfortunately committed myself to an apple universe and not sure I want to switch over but it is a very nice device and pairs very well with her Samsung galaxy S 23FE I believe it is.
