Same with me. I found a new recovery partition on my disk just next to the OP partition, which me too suddenly became grayed out.

After a little search I found someone who stated he understood how to resolve this. According to him it is linked with this new recovery partition just next to OP partition which makes Samsung Magician struggle so it kind freezes it out.

This guys just deleted this mysterious new recovery partition and voilà ! It made sens because before apparition of this recovery partition OP was not grayed out in my case + the size of this recovery part. was not the same as my legit recovery part. (like half its size).

So I just did like him and with powershell admin, diskpart just deleted (carefully) the new strange recovery partition and right after that OP in Samsung Magician became available again.

Problem solved.

All, I found that issue is that Samsung Magician is greyed out is due it to not having enough space to setup the over provisioning. It stated that recommends 10% of your drive but not sure if that is formatted 10% or total compacity 10%. On my drive, I had a 1 TB SSD, Samsung Magician that need 96 GB. I had 94.07 GB and the OP option was greyed out to me. I am using a 860 EVO SATA 2.5" SSD 1TB

Hope this helps you all.

Same. It's been the same for ages. The diskpart trick doesn't work. Recreating and deleting a new OP doesn't work. 20% cannot be changed, cannot be cleared.

Alternative solution that works for me

1) Type “advanced system settings” in search bar.

2) On system properties, go to advanced -> performance, click “Settings…”

3) On performance options, go to advanced -> click “Change….”

4) On virtual memory, uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all device”

5) Select “No Paging File” -> click Ok then Apply.

6) Restart your pc.

7) Check if you can set custom OP now.

This is annoying. This USED To work... no matter what. It just always gave me the ability to enable or disabled. I don't know if it's because Samsung NEVER updates their software and I'm on W11 24H2 or what, but I've had the exact same Samsung Magician with no updates for... what, 2-3 years?

Guess I'll just leave it off. It's not like it gives any performance boost. I just need to stay aware of how much memory I'm using on my 2TB Samsung Evo Plus, then. It's just that I WANTED to throw a 10% provision in there and not worry about running out of space. I mean, I have over 7TB of storage space on my PC, so I can move things around, but still.

It's not like I'm the only one with this issue.

And what burns me up is that I'm a Samsung guy. There are certain types of hardware that I ALWAYS aim for. ASUS motherboards, ASUS GPUs when possible along with other Asus products. And then Samsung for my phones, televisions and ANYTHING to do with memory when possible. I always like to get Samsung memory on my RAM and I ALWAYS trust Samsung storage. But this is ridiculous. I don't want to overreact, because the hardware, itself, is top notch. But why can't something as simple as provisioning work? It USED to work. I have plenty of free space for it to work.

If Samsung 970/980/990 M.2 NVMEs weren't so fast, I'd just go with something else, but I like to have the best. I may just end up moving to Kingston, Crucial, Corsair and MAYBE even PNY. Seagate makes decent solid state storage, too.. unlike their horrendous HDDs. Kingston has been around for decades, too, and make super reliable storage.

If you can't keep your software working, you can't keep updates rolling out, you can't release any Firmware, maybe ONCE every year or more, then yeah...

I tried that and it didn't work for me. I tried some other methods mentioned above that people said worked for them and it also didn't work for me. I'm using around 900GB of my 2TB drive, too, so I don't think that's an issue, either.

I feel like the software needs an update for Windows 24H2.
