I've just installed "Samsung_Magician_Installer_Official_8.3.1.820.exe" . The start menu shortcut created by installed already got the " --disable-gpu-sandbox" parameter. However, it still does not work for me. At least via RDP (both client and server are Windows 10 22H2).

Such a shame for Samsung...

Thanks to @Neil23, I've got the solution down (I think!<LI-EMOJI id="lia_disappointed-face" title=""></LI-EMOJI>

Force-quitting Samsung Magician, even including the service, did not work for me until I added the argument -no-sandbox in the Task Scheduler (just add it after the /AUTOHIDE option that's already there).

1) Hit Start,

2) Search Task Scheduler, open it,

3) Scroll down the list to Samsung Magician, double-click it to open,

4) Click the Actions tab at the top,

5) Then double-click on Start a program

6) Now, in the lower-right, click in the box Add arguments (optional), and after /AUTOHIDE put a space and then -no-sandbox

7) Then click OK,

<LI-EMOJI id="lia_smiling-face-with-sunglasses" title=":smiling_face_with_sunglasses:"></LI-EMOJI> Then click OK on the next box.

9) Restart your computer.

Looks like there is another potential issue involving the PATH environment variable being missing, here's the fix if that is the issue, thx @aurum79 :

Change your windows system PATH variable to include the new Samsung Director (C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung Magician). This is done by right clicking on the Start Button, Selecting System from the context menu, choosing Advanced System Settings, going to the Advanced tab, clicking Environment Variables, Clicking on the variable called "Path", then "Edit", selecting "New" and adding the path above

I have latest Samsung Magician 8 working on Windows 11. Here is what I did: Install Samsung Magician. Turn off autostart option after installation has completed (Options button). Delete the link to the app the install placed on the desktop. Change your windows system PATH variable to include the new Samsung Director (C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung Magician). This is done by right clicking on the Start Button, Selecting System from the context menu, choosing Advanced System Settings, going to the Advanced tab, clicking Environment Variables, Clicking on the variable called "Path", then "Edit", selecting "New" and adding the path above. Then add a link to the SamsungMagician.exe app in this folder to your desktop. The problem is stupid -- Samsung Magician can't find its own directory. REBOOT. Magician SHOULD NOT AUTOSTART. Then start Magician with the link you created every time you boot (or set this link to autostart if you know how). Works every time!

Tried all of the above an nothing works for me. When I install It appears to all be Ok but when I try to run magician it brings an icon up on the toolbar and then never loads past that point. Watching the memory/cpu/disk, there is a flurry of activity on all three when I click on the program and then disk and cpu activity for the app fall to zero. There also appear to be three instances of the app that open simultaneously on task manager, along with the magician service. Im tech savvy but not an IT expert. I've tried all of the above to no avail and now spent about 6 hours trying to get it to work so almost at the point of returning the SSD under warranty even though its not even been connected yet <LI-EMOJI id="lia_disappointed-face" title=""></LI-EMOJI>

It seems really difficult to get any support from Samsung for this who don't seem to have an email address for support of anything other than their mobile devices, appliances and TV's

What is really annoying is it worked like clockwork on my other win 10 PC and I was so impressed with the SSD and magician that I bought another one for the second PC in the family.

Any other suggestions on what I could try? Has anyone had any success contacting someone in Samsung tech support who can guide you through a fix?

Still doesn't work. None of these old "no-sanbox" fixes work. Fresh install doesn't work. Nothing works. The devs responsible for magician are talentless hacks.

I'm fed up, gonna file a claim for false advertising, not being able to update my firmware and similar things. Glad I live in EU where they have some power reg. manufacturers.

I've gone through all of these options, and pretty much anything electron related with no luck.

As not being one to give up, and lucky enough to have spare computers, I just took everything out of the machine where Magician refuses to work. Just because I got annoyed when I couldn't update a firmware on one of the drives.

So, I left only 1 drive installed on the "primary" slot. It didn't work at first, but after a few tries, it did. After doing the firmware update, I started adding drives back. Two drives worked, three didn't. Went through logs, and it's the same as always: The service "samsungmagicianSVC" seems to be the issue. So, I set up the options on "what to do after a service fails" to start the service again after the first failure. Started magician again and then just stared at process manager on what it was doing.

The service got stuck at about the same point (well, nearly same amount of memory used) every time and crashed. Started up again, crashed. After crashing-restarting on the background for a while the service just "stabilized" and didn't crash.

After that I started magician normally, with no flags added, and it worked just fine (until reboot). Verified this behaviour a few times and always the same.

After this I added rest of my disks, so a few more m.2:s and a bunch of sata SSD:s. This was too much for the magician service to handle. I could leave it for hours and it was stuck on that crashing loop.

So, I came to the conclusion that Magician has multiple issues: Some GPU related and some others. Also, it might not be able to handle more than a few drives at a time on some platforms, especially if you have some drives on a PCI-E expansion card (which shouldn't matter) in addition to MB m.2 slots. None of these should be an issue if the app was made properly.

In fact, I got it to "work" and "detect" a drive on a expansion card, but magician was really, really confused and couldn't really do anything with the drive. Even though it recognized it as a samsung product. This was on a bifurcated pcie slot but the same thing happened without bifurcation.

Thank you steovitz, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung Magician\SamsungMagician.exe" --disable-gpu-sandbox -no-sandbox" did it for me.

Not only that this stupid binary doesn't install when other EXEs are in the directory then this. Next to the fact that my 4TB 990 pro crashes when writing more than like a Gig this is the worst SSD experience I ever had with an SSD. Was the last one.

2025 Aug

THIS WORKED:

3. Run in Compatibility Mode

Running the application in compatibility mode might resolve conflicts with your operating system.

Find the Samsung Magician executable file (SamsungMagician.exe). This is typically in C:\ Program Files (x86)\ Samsung\ Samsung Magician.

Right-click the file and select "Properties".

Go to the "Compatibility" tab.

Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select a previous version of Windows, like Windows 8.

Also, check "Run this program as an administrator".

Click "Apply" and "OK".

Surprisingly, this tip did the trick for my system.

My setup:

Windows 11 Pro 2024H2 build 26100.4946 with every update (optionals included) until 2025/08/23.

Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB PCIe Gen 3x4.

Intel CPU and motherboard chipset, PCIe Gen 3x4 compatible.

My changes:

No changes in Samsungs' service.

Disable app start in Task Scheduler.

Created a shortcut icon at desktop and added only"--disable-gpu-sandbox -no-sandbox" parameters.

Edit icon properties and check only "Run this program as an administrator".

At least, now I can manually start the app from my desktop.

I've got this issue years ago. It's incredible that a company like Samsung still didn't fix it... and it seems they'll never do it...
