Thanks. But what I'm after is a permanent fix. As I said a fellow diabetic who lives in Germany has been told that a One UI 8.5 is in the works that should resolve the issues. Have had zero confirmation of that from anyone connected with Samsung or Abbott Diabetes Care, nor a timeline for a fix, as far as the UK is concerned. That isn't good enough. These sensors aren't games. They help keep people alive and healthy.

One UI 8 OS update is disrupting use of diabetes technology - No ETA on UI. 8.5

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a critical issue I'm facing, as it seems to be affecting many diabetic users of Samsung Galaxy phones and Abbott's FreeStyle Libre glucose sensors and LibreLink phone app.

I use a Galaxy A53 with a FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor and the LibreLink app. Everything was working perfectly until I updated my phone to Android 16 / One UI 8. Since then, the communication between my phone and my CGM has become highly unreliable.

This is a significant safety concern for anyone who relies on their phone for glucose monitoring.

The Major Post-Update Problems:

Based on my experience and many other user reports I've seen across various forums, here are the most common issues after the Android 16/One UI 8 update:

NFC Scanning Failure: The ability to scan the Libre sensor via NFC has become extremely inconsistent or has stopped working entirely. I frequently get an NFC error message even though NFC is enabled. This makes both starting and getting an on-demand glucose readings difficult or impossible.

Unstable Bluetooth Connection: I'm seeing much more frequent "signal loss" alarms and general instability in the Bluetooth connection needed for the automatic minute-by-minute readings and alarms. This defeats the purpose of the Libre Plus glucose sensor's automatic monitoring.

App Data Loss Risk: While less common, I've seen reports of users losing all historical data in the LibreLink app after trying to fix the issues by reinstalling the app post-update.

What Samsung Support is Saying (Conflicting Info):

I've done some digging and found conflicting information from Samsung, which is frustrating:

A diabetic user in Germany was reportedly told by Samsung's German Tech Support that Samsung is aware of these known issues and is actively working on a One UI 8.5 software update to resolve them.

I spoke with Samsung UK Tech Support, and while they were pleasant, they could not confirm a One UI 8.5 fix is in the works, nor could they offer any timeline for a resolution being available for UK customers.

My Question to the Community

Has anyone found a reliable temporary workaround for these NFC or Bluetooth issues on Android 16/One UI 8?

The thought of relying on an unreliable device for a critical health function is alarming.

Frankly, this is making me seriously consider switching to my first iPhone!

Please share your experiences, especially if you have a Galaxy device that received the Android 16/One UI8 update!

I have been using my S24 reliably with Libre 2 sensors for 8 months. Just installed the One UI update and now the Libre 2 app can't scan NFC and seems to crash when doing so.

If anyone finds a fix, please let us know!

No, it's not the app that's "broken". Found a "workaround" here: https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s/bug-nfc-no-longer-working-since-one-ui-8-update/td-p/35180302/page/2

It isn't perfect, but I was able to sign in and pair the sensor to the phone using NFC. Scanning the Libre 2 again resulted in the app crashing, but at least I have a working phone (S24) and sensor.

Historically Abbott have always been useless at keeping users of their products informed about glitches in the seamless working of their products and ensuring smooth continuation of working of their products whenever Abbott tweak their LibreLink app and/or something on their sensors.

I've always found Samsung tech support to be very helpful in the past. I must have gotten a support person who was having a bad day when I contacted them about this. Following your initial posts, I now realise there are lots of online articles about One UI 8.5 and the timeline for releasing it.

My only gripe with Samsung is that I wish they hadn't released One UI 8/Android 16 at all, but waited until One UI 8.5 was ready. They knew - or ought to have known - there were bugs in One UI 8.

I didn't realise that if people use the Samsung Pay app on their Galaxy smartphones (I don't), following One UI 8, it no longer works properly because NFC now works intermittently.

It looks like the problems will only be fixed permanently once Samsung release One UI 8.5.

It's affecting far more than people who use diabetic continuous glucose sensors. Apparently the Samsung Pay app doesn't work seamlessly any more. And people are reporting issues with Bluetooth becoming unstable.

So Samsung know they need to fix One UI 8.

I finally managed to reach Abbott Diabetes care. They are aware of the issue and are trying to solve it. I gave them the following insights:

1. The issue seems to be that the NFC service on the affected phones stops unexpectedly after 1 use.

2. By turning NFC off, waiting 10 seconds and turning it back on, the NFC service is restarted

3. You can then do one scan, after which the NFC service stops unexpectedly.

4. Because the service is stopped after the scan, this is probably the reason for the Libre 2 app crash.

I have an open case with my phone details and number, Libre 2 app version and my offer to assist by providing logs and details.

I'm not hopeful this will get resolved soon.

Just thinking, if they know their update is failing, why not referting back to a software version that doens't have this issue.

Luckely, although the app returns error after error, it does store the scanned info just before restarting. At least, it restarts in most cases for me, sometimes it complains about not accepting th NFC, sometings complaining I have to turn on NFC, etc etc.

Yes very annoying during manual scan, but data from my sensor is mostly transfered wirelessly. I only scan manual when I start my breakfast, lunch or dinner.

It's really frustrating, isn't it! Even worse is that there's no definitive timeline for when One UI 8.5 (the stable version of which I understand was originally planned to be pushed out to Samsung's flagship S26 smartphone in January/February 2026) will be rolled out to fix things.

If this was a problem with the Windows operating system, even Microsoft would issue a separate update quickly to fix known issues, before it rolled out a significant update.

January/February/March 2026 is too long to wait.
