Hi! Welxome to the samsung members community!

Unfortunately, standard text messaging apps on Samsung Galaxy phones (like the J6) don't have a direct "move to folder" or "categorize" feature for individual text message conversations.

The "categories" you might be seeing are likely related to contact groups, not message organization.

Workarounds and Alternatives:

-
* Taking Screenshots:
* This is the simplest, though manual, method.
* Open each relevant conversation and take screenshots of the messages you want to save.
* Create a dedicated folder in your phone's gallery and move the screenshots there.

-
* Using a Third-Party SMS Backup App:
* Several apps on the Google Play Store can back up your text messages to a file.
* Search for "SMS backup and restore" or similar terms.
* These apps often allow you to:
* Export messages to a file (e.g., XML or PDF).
* Save the backup file to your phone's storage or cloud storage.

* Some apps may have filtering options to select specific conversations

* Recommendation: "SMS Backup & Restore" is a popular and well-regarded option.

-
* Copy and Paste to a Note-Taking App:
* Open each conversation.
* Long-press on a message to select it, then use the "copy" option.
* Open a note-taking app (like Samsung Notes or Google Keep).
* Create a new note and paste the copied text.

-
* Forwarding Messages to Yourself (Email or Another Number):
* Forwarding the messages to an email address would allow you to save them within an email folder.
* Forwarding the messages to another phone number that you own, would allow you to keep them on that device.

Important Notes:
* When using third-party apps, be cautious about granting permissions. Read reviews and choose reputable apps.
* Backing up your messages is a good practice in general, not just for this specific situation.

I hope this helps!

How to move texts from "conversations" to a new category on Galaxy J6

I have several text messages relating to my late sister in my "Conversations" on my phone and want to move them to a separate "folder" for safekeeping and so they're all in one place. I've added a category for this but can't see how to actually move the messages. I've been through the manual (online) but can't see the instructions in there - though that could be me missing something.

Can anyone give me some simple instructions on how to do this - you can probably tell I'm not very technically minded!

Thank you

So I just figured this out. You'll need a third category after you separate some into the other category. "All" is the default category and unless you have a third category, the ones from the new second category will still appear. For example, your new second category would be called "Sister" and you'd need another category called "Everything Else". Pretty clunky unfortunately
