I was one that used SD cards.
Could download music and films so wasn't reliant on network provider signals. Especially if staying somewhere with a poor signal.
But with phones no longer starting to support cards. It's a case of adapting.
I predominantly use Google Photos
But if you have an Amazon account, you can get photo storage on amazon Photos at full resolution as well.
As for phone storage, because I use cloud services. Phone storage is not really an issue.
Getting a hard drive like @Fiona26 has mentioned is a good idea as well

Someday, I'll have to replace my Galaxy S10e. Normally I'd pick up last year's flagship (now, S23 series) and be happy. But apparently, the S20 was the last S to have a MicroSD card slot. I'm guessing Samsung decided cloud storage should be a painless alternative.

I rely on the SD card for video, music and photo storage, and I've always configured my phone to save photos and videos to the card. Higher capacity on-board memory is too expensive, especially when shopping for an "old" model.

So, if you, like me, used to rely on MicroSD card storage... Was it easy and painless to replace it with the cloud? Can you, for example, automatically store (move) photos & videos to the cloud, so the on-board memory doesn't fill up and leave me scrambling for space when shooting multiple videos?

I've had A-series in the past and don't care to give up the superior S features to get a card slot.

Honestly I have not missed the sd card. I have bought devices with at least 512gb. Use Google photos cloud. I do have a 2TB hard drive which wasn't too expensive which I can move stuff over to if my phone gets full. There is other options if you did not want to use or pay for cloud.

I think your better with cloud storage and also backing up to hard drive or PC. If you just store photos and videos on the phone or SD card then if something goes wrong it's all lost.
