App not compatible with Android version - no updates available

I am needed to use the Government GW app to verify my ID on my Samsung Note 8 Smartphone but the Government GW app states that it is not capatible with my Android version which was last updated 25th August 2022. I have checked an there are now updates outstanding so how do I get the latest Android version on my phone so that I can use this App? Or is it that I simply cannot use the App?

Hi there 👋, unfortunately galaxy note 8 is no longer supported device, and app might require higher versions of Android so you won't be able to use it on your phone.

I have searched for compatibility information but cannot see anything specific, the latest update available for the Galaxy Note 8 though is Android Pie 9 with One UI 1.0 (only receieved two major os updates) and I would imagine a number of apps would not be compatible. if in a position to do so should consider an upgrade.
