Hi. Can anyone help. I haven't used my M31 for a while. It is asking for a password which I can't remember. Is there any way of resetting this or doing a factory restart (without having to get past the password request bit). Any help appreciated. Really need access to this phone if I can. It still works fine even if a little dated.

Thanks

Hello and welcome 👋

It's always unfortunate when we don't remember lock screens. There's just too many passwords to remember these days 🙃

But, you can hook up the phone to PC/Laptop via charging cable and try boot into recovery mode by doing below

Press and hold volume down + power for about 15 seconds

When phone goes off quickly change button combination to below

Volume up and power again for about 15 seconds and release when you see Samsung logo

If boots into recovery mode... use volume down button to select "factory reset" then press power button to confirm

You'll be asked to confirm you want to do this so use volume down to confirm yes/factory reset then power button to confirm it

If done correctly, you'll be then asked to "reboot system now." Press pow3r button to confirm.

WARNING: You'll need to know your Google account details, you used on the phone, and enter them on set up page to be able to set the phone up again

If this helps or if you have any questions please let us know 🙃

Thank you for this, but I don't have access to a PC/laptop. Will just have to forget about it and put it down to another poor Samsung feature. I own so many Samsung products, but things like this just deter me from the Company. Very poor. Thanks again

I see.

If you were logged into Google Account you could try logging into Google Find My Device

Or

If you have a Samsung Account could try login into Samsung Smart Things Find

Both options give you the option to remotely erase the phone... assuming you've not logged out of the accounts on the phone itself.

Not sure what tou mean by it deters you from Samsung? It's not Samsung fault you forgot your password? Even other manufacturers phones, such as edible food brand, needs a PC/Laptop for recovery mode at times?

If you know your google / Samsung account password then reset by recovery. If you can get back in even with the correct password then google 'how to bypass frp lock galaxy (your galaxy model)'
If you want to reflash use a Linux or Windows PC
Windows - odin
Linux- heimdall
Look on youtube for a guide on which one suits you the best.
