Get alert within a text

On iphone when you get a new text in the chat you're in, you get a slight but noticeable alert/sound/notification. It's a quiet alert, not the same as a new text when you're in another chat or not in Messages. That doesn't happen on Android/Samsung. Or am I missing it? It's super helpful when I'm not looking at the phone. As it is, it's easy to miss a reply. An alert is needed. Thanks.

try checking the notifications settings of your message app

open the message app

tap 3 dots in the upper corner

tap settings

tap notifications

next, check for notifications volume too

phone settings

sound

volume

notifications
