Setting custom notification sounds

I have a Samsung Galaxy A21s. I am trying to set custom notification sound to various apps, can this be done on this phone using Android 10.

The A21s seems to be a phone that has been forgotten or is it my imagination.

When setting mine i prefer to go into...

Settings.

Apps.

The app in question i.e messages.

New Messages.

Choose the tone I want.

I think the Samsung A21s is the problem, i saw you devices and followed what you wrote but at the end i don't get anywhere to change the tone.

The furthest I've got with this (having the same issue myself) is to assign a notification to each contact, e.g. via the WhatsApp notifications to ensure I get a different ringtone for WhatsApp messages than for standard messages. It doesn't seem to work simply by changing the notification for the whole of WhatsApp for example - I still got the standard message tone.
