Note 20 ultra Camera unable to auto focus / manual focus below x5 zoom

Recently my Samsung note 20 ultra camera fail to either auto focus or I'm unable to manually focus when i try to take a photo below x5 zoom.

Anybody experience this?

Hey @CoffeeO

Have you tried clearing the Camera app cache and data by heading into Settings > Apps > Storage > Clear cache, then Clear data, to see if this helps? This won't delete your personal data, so worry not!

Yup, i did that however problem still persist.. I have taken a photo for your reference as well.. Also i'm unable to send for repair in samsung as my phone was bought overseas 'export' set.

No problem. Is the Camera fully up to date? Google Play Store > Click on your profile picture (top-right) > My Apps & Games > Update Camera app. If this doesn't help, please go to: Samsung Members app > Get help > Interactive checks > Phone care > Interactive checks > Test the camera. Is it working fine?

Hi Carlol,

Yes, current camera has the latest version (11.0.02.97) and phone is also in the has the latest update (One UI version 3.1)..

Tried testing the camera in "Samsung Members app, Interactive checks" however same issues.. camera still remain blur

Right, since the camera is still showing this with the interactive check, the next step would be a Factory Reset after you back up your device: How do I perform a factory reset on my mobile device? | Samsung UK

If this still doesn't help, it might be best to have the device checked by an engineer, you can get this booked by contacting Technical Support here.

Hi Carlol,

Apparently i have send it to Singapore Samsung shop for a check and the technician said that the issue is hardware of the rear camera hence it requires replacement. Apart from that, im unable to get it repair for today as my phone was not purchase from Singapore and they will need 'Samsung' to register it in order for local Samsung store to take it my phone for repair.

I've had this issue on two different note 20 ultras. Happened to my first one after about 10 months. Got a warranty replacement new one through Verizon....low and behold, about 10 months later, same issue again but now it's out of warranty. I might be done with Samsung phones now. Maybe I'll try iPhone

I have noticed this recently, and it's pretty annoying. I bought this phone specifically for the camera features, and just recently, it can't even autofocus on the 1X setting. I thought it was due to a bad monthly update.

I did clear the cache and data, but just today, I was still having a hard time focusing on 1X mode, with both the 4:3 and 16:9 settings. If this isn't corrected by Samsung, either I'll have to shoot with my old S8, or switch to a Google Pixel. This blurry nonsense is unacceptable.

If your phone is still under warranty, probably they will fix it for free.. Else you will have to pay for them to do the replacement of the camera

I'm on my 3rd note 20 ultra. The first two had the camera go bad at around the 10 month mark. I replaced them through Verizon instead of going through Samsung. You have to mail in your phone and be phoneless for who knows how long while they have it. Verizon just sends you a replacement.

I've experienced this...repeatedly. The saddest part of all this. 1000s of us have experienced this. It's CLEARLY a known issue with Samsung yet they continue to act stupid about it. Clear the cache.. factory reset, blah blah blah. I'm on my 3d note 20 ultra. Each 1 has failed. Guess what. Now warranty is expired and my Samsung care will no longer replace the phone. And Samsung has the nerve to still claim this is a top tier camera. It's garbage years with Samsung..I had the very 1st Note up to the 20 & I'm done.

I have the same problem. Happened just outside warranty, I'm in Japan and they want a fortune for their poor manufacturing. This is my last Samsung. Wish they made a better phone.

I noticed same blur issue for 1x and 5x camera last days. In many cases it is not able to focus correctly, that is annoying, because one of the main reason of buying Note 20 Ultra was the camera set.

Mine has this problem too. Once I turn on the camera, blur. Once I lightly slap the phone, it gets focus (or change to video and back to camera). And it happened after android 13 update. I suppose it´s software problem. I am too disappointed with samsung.

I've done all the steps required here. I even brought the phone down to a specialist to get it checked out and replace the camera. The new camera didn't work. The shop said that the new camera didn't work with the device. Either he's telling the truth or didn't perform the work. So i have no clue what happened. Camera is still not focusing.
