Note 9 battery drain from email

I just upgraded from the Note 8 to note 9 2 weeks ago. I am having serious battery drain from email. I changed the setting so it only syncs once an hour. Stats say its running in the background. I shut that but it keeps coming back on. What do I do?

Hello!

Please go to Settings > Clouds and accounts > Accounts > tap the email > Sync > turn off sync.

I don't have clouds and accounts, just accounts and backup. I went in and stopped syncing each account. Does this mean I will no longer receive emails?

Now when I try to refresh emails, it says sync turned off
