The May 5th Security Update includes more than just security updates

Today I received a Security Update on my S25 Ultra that brought with it a large number of software and AI updates that haven't been listed on the One UI 8.5 stable version update that I received at the beginning of the month.
The update I received today it’s a 554.86 MB package running on Android 16 with the 5th of May 2026 security patch, and it focuses heavily on smart AI features, smoother visuals, and better connectivity across all your devices.

Maybe Samsung would be able to clarify what this update is all about, but it's not a complaint, this wholesome software update is very welcome.

I will list the upgrades that have come but I tried to keep it short because the text received was very long.

A Fresh Visual Design
Samsung is giving the interface a cleaner, more fluid look.
• Depth & Flow: New transparent blur effects make menus feel layered and easier to read. Elements on the screen float and react dynamically as you move through your phone, making the overall experience feel more organic.
• Layout Smart Match: When you set a photo of a person or pet as your lock screen, the phone automatically adjusts it to sit perfectly around your clock and widgets. You can also customize the exact thickness of your clock font.
• Cloud Wallpapers: You can download live, interactive backgrounds and real-time weather wallpapers directly from the cloud, saving valuable local storage.
Smarter Ways to Communicate
AI is taking over the heavy lifting for daily calling and chatting.
• Screening & Voicemail:Galaxy AI Screen Call lets an assistant answer for you so you can see who is calling and why before picking up. If you miss a call, Direct Voicemail Screening transcribes their message live on your screen, allowing you to jump into the call whenever you want.
• Contextual Declines: If you're busy, your phone suggests quick text replies based on what you are doing (like driving or working out).
• Seamless Interpreter: The language translation feature now has auto-language detection, meaning you can just talk naturally without constantly tapping a microphone button.
• Smarter Bixby: You no longer need to remember strict voice commands. Just talk to Bixby in plain, natural language, and it will find the settings you need. It also keeps a neat conversation history tab in the side panel.
Upgraded Camera & Creative AI Tools
The camera and photo editor are getting some massive professional and generative AI upgrades.
• Smart Document Scanning: Point your camera at a document, and a "Scan" button pops up instantly. You can scan multiple pages straight into a single PDF, and a new AI "Remove" tool digitally erases messy shadows, stray fingers, or folded corners.
• Better Photo Editing: With Text-Prompt Editing, you can change things in a picture just by typing a description (like swapping the color of a shirt). You can also cut objects out of one photo and drop them into another with perfectly blended lighting.
• Continuous AI Images: You can generate AI images back-to-back and look through your creation history at the end, saving only the ones you actually like.
• Pro Video & Photos:Dual Recording lets you film with the front and rear cameras at the same time. If you shoot in Log format, you can preview cinematic color filters (LUTs) in real time. For standard photos, Auto Motion Photos only saves a moving clip if it actually detects motion, saving you plenty of storage space.
Seamless Device Connectivity
Sharing files and managing your tech ecosystem is getting a lot less frustrating.
• Apple Compatibility:Quick Share now works directly with AirDrop-compatible Apple devices (iPhones, iPads, and Macs). It even uses facial recognition to suggest sending photos directly to the friends or family members spotted in the image.
• Unified File Access: You can now browse files sitting on your other Samsung phones, tablets, or PCs right from your primary phone’s My Files app—and you can even access your phone's storage from a Samsung TV.
• Audio & Screen Casting: There's a new home screen shortcut to instantly mirror your screen to a TV. Plus, upgraded Auracast controls let you turn your phone into a live microphone to broadcast your voice to nearby listeners.
Health, Battery, & Security
• Galaxy Watch Extras: You can now track skin antioxidant levels straight from your wrist (on the Galaxy Watch 18 and Ultra), launch meditations directly from the watch, and overlay your fitness stats onto workout photos for social media.
• Tiered Power Saving: The battery menu gets a clean visual overhaul. You can now choose between "Standard" power saving or "Maximum" mode, which shuts down everything but the absolute essentials.
• Lockdown Security: If someone steals your phone and fails the biometric or PIN login multiple times, the device completely freezes. A central Knox Matrix hub also keeps an eye on all your signed-in devices and warns you if any of them need a critical security update.
• Auto Blocker Timer: If you have to temporarily turn off the phone's safety Auto Blocker, you can set a timer to have it automatically turn itself back on 30 minutes later.
Daily Productivity Fixes
• Samsung Notes Tables: You can now build clean data tables inside Notes, complete with custom borders and automatic math calculations.
• Partial Screen Recording: Instead of recording your entire screen, you can crop and capture just the specific section you want to show.
• Smart Utilities: If you copy a formula or a long string of numbers, the Calculator app will instantly suggest pasting it the moment you open it. In DEX The OS also remembers the exact window sizes of your split-screen apps, opening them exactly how you left them.
• Accessibility Upgrades: Includes quick shortcuts for Bluetooth hearing *****, a toggle to dim blinding strobe effects in videos, and specialized mouse actions that trigger custom shortcuts whenever your cursor hits one of the four corners of the screen.
