The YouTube algorithm actually came through with something interesting today. I am a long-time Samsung user, but this video covers some pretty impressive tech that’s worth a look. It’s always good to see diversity every now and again.

The Appliance and Electronics World Expo (AWE) 2026 is like the Chinese version of CES it seems. It’s one of the world's massive tech shows where brands like Haier, TCL, and even Tesla show off how AI is being baked into physical products rather than just software.

I remember buying TCL monitors around 15 years ago because they offered the best computer monitors for the most budget price. Back than I thought they were just an affordable tech company, but now I see they used the budget-friendly devices to fund massive ambitions. Seeing them evolve into a giant that makes everything from high-end screens to advanced AI washing machines is incredible.

I’m also glad to see Morphy Richards getting so much attention at the Innovation Show. They are one of my favorite British brands, and I am using alot of their appliances and household products for my home, it’s great to see them showcased alongside the world's biggest names.

The Top Highlights
• AI You Can Actually Talk To: I saw washing machines and dryers that don’t use buttons. You just tell them, "This is a delicate silk scarf," and the AI understands your natural speech to set the cycle.
• The Future Kitchen: There’s a "miniature salad farm" for your home that grows hydroponic lettuce automatically, and smart fridges that text you if your steak and vegetables are about to go bad.
• Humanoid Robots: I saw many robot models, from lifelike robots that look exactly like people to companion robots designed to detect if an elderly person has fallen and call for help by announcing their relatives and also companion robots that react cutely to being petted, designed to keep you company and make you feel less lonely when you're feeling blue.
• Flying Cars: A modular vehicle from Xpeng was on display where a personal transportation drone literally pops out of the back of the car so you can fly over traffic.
• Smart Caravanning: I was blown away by an all-electric caravan that can go off-grid for two weeks and has a full-sized washer, dryer, and fridge inside.
• Cube glass 3D displays for museums.
• 3D printers.

The Big Takeaway: Barrett’s main point is that while the West focuses on AI for writing or coding, China is winning the race for Applied AI—putting the tech into tools that solve boring, everyday problems like washing shoes or managing food waste.
