Finally! Direct Voicemail! - One UI 8.5

One of my favourite fruit features is direct Voicemail i.e it saves to your phone not via your network provider ... This makes it alot easier to listen to a voice message....no need to call up.

Seems this feature is coming to One UI 8.5 - this should also mean the voicemail can be transcribed too

Depending on who your mobile provider is, this functionality has actually been a thing for years. Samsung seems to be offering the same experience to everyone now by having the phone do it.

Tested it, it's transcribed using the same system as call recordings and voice recordings. So yes it does transcribe. It also does it live so you can see them talk.

What I mean is some providers support "visual voicemail". It makes it so you don't need to call your voicemail, it just shows up on the phone as an audio file in a list. Thought I'd mention it as it's usually opt in, and loads of people have no idea it exists.

Phone based voicemail isn't super useful to me as my provider supports visual voicemail. But I know loads of people who don't get that who would benefit.

Im pretty sure it is dependent on your network provider, its been around for years. Now Samsung has given us the option for everyone to use. For example iphone on EE has had this for years and it automatically transcribes and allows you to press the play button instead of having to call up your voicemail. Glad Samsung gives everyone a similar experience now.

Tested this on the new S26 Ultra on T-Mobile and when the call gets transferred to VM the other person can hear the microphone for a quick second. Tested it multiple times letting the phone transfer after 20 seconds and not touching it.

Personally, I'm not impressed with this feature. AT&T had offered this for a long long time. Having my voicemails buried in missed calls is horribly inconvenient. It was a lot easier to just open my voicemail app and all the voicemails are there to listen to, and transcribed.

Maybe I'm missing something, or it isn't setup properly for it to function efficiently on my phone.

I have an S26 Ultra.
