A very interesting read.

Harmony OS is getting better all the time and Huawei are looking to take on Google in the future.

Many core Google apps like Gmail can still be accessed through Harmony on the web.

Most of the main apps are there. The usual social media ***** along with lots of other mainstream apps.

Google may have it's work cut out in the future....

Chinese OS vs. Android OS

Thought this would be interesting to talk about when making the decision which phone is best for you.

Chinese operating systems, like Huawei's HarmonyOS and openKylin, are independent alternatives to Google's Android, which use different infrastructures and services (lacking Google Mobile Services) to cater to the Chinese market, whereas Android is a globally dominant, Google-controlled system offering a familiar user experience and vast app compatibility. Key differences include the presence of Chinese-specific apps, the absence of Google services, and varying network band support, creating a divergent software and hardware experience between the two.
Chinese Operating Systems

• Examples:
Huawei's HarmonyOS (especially HarmonyOS NEXT, its version not based on Android) and the openKylin OS are examples of China's efforts to create independent operating systems.

• Independence:
These are government-backed, independent systems designed to reduce reliance on foreign technology and foster domestic innovation.

• Services:
They do not include Google Mobile Services (GMS), the ecosystem of apps and services like Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Play Store, due to government regulations and local market focus.

• App Ecosystem:
Developers need to create native applications specifically for HarmonyOS NEXT, as it cannot run Android apps.

• Hardware Features:
Chinese versions of phones may have different 5G band support and other hardware variations compared to global models.
Android (Global)

• Control:
Android is the globally dominant mobile operating system controlled by Google.

• Google Services:
It is deeply integrated with Google Mobile Services (GMS), providing a wide range of familiar apps and services like the Google Play Store, Gmail, and YouTube.

• App Availability:
It has a vast and diverse ecosystem of applications available through the Google Play Store.

• Hardware Compatibility:
Global versions of Android devices generally support a broader range of network bands, ensuring better connectivity worldwide.
Key Differences Summarized

• Services:
Chinese OSs lack Google services, while Android includes them.

• Apps:
Android relies on the vast Google Play Store, whereas Chinese OSs have their own app ecosystems and must support native apps.

• Network:
Chinese versions of devices often have different network band support compared to global Android devices.

• Cost:
Chinese versions of devices are typically cheaper, though this is a hardware difference, not a direct OS difference.

• User Experience:
Chinese OSs offer a unique software experience tailored to the local market, while global Android offers a more familiar experience.

Here, a Reddit discussion on this topic.

How are Chinese Android Operating Systems different from Google's Android Operating System? : r/Sino <A
I'd like a choice but do feel the Chinese o/s will totally kick Google rear end, privacy and all that thing, i don't trust Google, Microsoft, Facebook or Chinese brands, they will all use and abuse your data.

I did add Samsung, then deleted it, as thinking about it so far I have nit heard any data privacy issues, queue someone tell me it has 😂🙏

Competition is always good.

Huawei were forced to develop Harmony OS when they got banned from using android. Think they thought it would destroy Huawei but they've come on leaps and bounds. Their phones are not widely available and none are available on contract nowadays.
Certainly competition is positive and Google will need to raise their game in the future. However I feel that currently the Chinese companies do not offer the best software experience or support. I think that privacy/security concerns are higher though issues with a number of companies.
