When a device has it's hot-spot on, battery drain is increased a fair bit. Battery also drains faster when using mobile data and not wifi. So it seems normal.

The heat is also from the phone sending out a lot more power in the form of radio waves

Hey members. My family and I are currently unable to use the Internet for a week and ive been using my hot-spot to use my other devices. Issue is ive noticed a increase in battery drain and my phone heating. My family notice the same with their phones.

I have told them its not too much to worry about and they'll be fine but I need clarification on this. I could be 100% wrong and they needed to turn off their hot-spot im not sure.

For short periods such as between WiFi Internet changes, I have in the past used my phone to tether. Even done all my office work for the week using my phone as a modem.

You are correct that the phone will heat up and the battery will be used far quicker than normal.

There is nothing too much to be concerned about. Although if possible I would give it some rest periods if you can.

I.e. it probably isnt a great idea to just leave it in charging port... and tethering... all day... every day.

Charging...creates heat. Chipset being used as a WiFi access point and cellular chip running constantly... all adds up to a high heat situation.

Short periods and rest periods would be more ideal.

Smiley

I've done most of today and all of last night leaving it to rest and only played 30 minutes of call of duty. That should be fine right? 😂

On a work level... I used to connect, answer emails, download some work and then disconnect. Do this every hour or so... and therefore didnt need to leave it constantly connected. I will also say I did subscribe for that month to unlimited data and actually downloaded a full install of Red Dead... over 100GB of size. The phone as a modem works great... just let it cool when it needs to.
