Is this worth it?
As in - in plain English, do they tend to pay out & cover you?

I thought about getting it but then I wondered if it'd be one of those things where they say - yeah but you didn't have your phone encased in 200mm insulation therefore your phone was at risk & we won't pay out.

Like the only way they'd pay is if maybe you got mugged but then they'd say well if you didn't go outside that day then you'd have been OK.

As you can tell, I'm not very trusting of insurance companies & it stems from suffering their excuses to get out of paying in the past.

I use my phone in a quad lock case mounted to my bike. I'm assuming they won't pay out if it gets damaged.

What if I get out of my car, phone in hand & accidentally drop it (which is how I damaged a previous phone)?

I'm in the same boat as you. Would be interested to get a view. I have owned mobiles since the iPhone4 and never taken insurance. Phones have never been damaged or stolen. Not sure why I should get it for the S24Ultra with my history. But you just never know.

I have bought it since I have this phone because I want Samsung own support if this phone breaks. I hope it's worth it. This insurance again, doesn't come cheap so I hope they won't fret if customers who pay for it need help.

I've got in on my tablet. Never had to claim though sorry. Does your bank offer mobile insurance? If so try comparing the two.

My phone however isn't insured. I too use a quad lock on my bike (motorbike). I have the anti vibration unit to prevent damage to the cameras. Don't know if insurance would even cover that though.

I haven't taken the insurance out although I'd quite like the cover. I haven't taken it because I just feel they'll use any excuse to get out of paying. Not just Samsung but any company really.

I also wonder how they'd tell the difference, if they'd tell at all, whether you dropped it accidentally or whether say (the case of my bike)?

I just feel uneasy to have this expensive phone in my pocket and to be uncovered if for example goes stolen or gets a bad accident that it's not my fault. I need to have the assurance at the back of my head that I get some support if something happens to my phone.

I think that if you have a high end Device best to take insurance (even if we are not all particularly clumsy) . Details on Samsung's offering here https://sales.samsungcareplus.assurant.co.uk/dashboard obviously alternatives to Samsung Care Plus such as some Bank policies which cover Mobiles. https://www.insurance2go.co.uk/compare/bank-insurance

Personally not needed to claim since I have had insurance mind you, up to everyone to make their own judgement though and obviously some are not so trusting of these policies.

I have taken the insurance for the first year of my last couple of devices... S21 ultra... and S23 ultra.

For 5.99 a month for the Care+ accidental damage cover it is a no brainer for me. I am a careful owner and I can't give any details of whether Samsung are good about claims... as i have never used it.

in my mind if I drop the phone through accidental damage then it should be repaired, for the cost of a £59 excess that needs to be paid. It will get a new screen and properly done by a Samsung service centre with genuine parts.

I don't do the theft part as i think i am careful in this regard, and after the first year of insurance I usually cancel it... the risk and reward dynamic changes a little bit then.

I hope I never need to use it, but 5.99 a month (the price of a pint of beer) it is a good safeguard to have.

Smiley

My BF has it and unless you live near a Samsung shop for repairs you have to send the phone off with a courier and it takes at least 10 days.

It's rubbish really. They say EE shops repair them so he booked that option and EE told us they don't, we were then told we had to go to the Samsung shop in Manchester, so he booked the courier option.

Argos offer (it seems) good insurance plans on mobile phones too. I've bought my last few Samsung items from them. I've never taken any plans out though as I don't trust them either. I always treat my phone like my beer glass........I never drop that! 🤞🏻 🙏🏼

This information is my complaint about Samsung, the disappointment, and to make others aware of what you possibly have to deal with when dealing with Samsung, Samsung Care+, to include issues with the Fold 5 phone.
I own a Samsung Fold 5. I bought it new, paid in full, unlocked version, from Samsung website. Ordered it in blue, only offered by Samsung website, but the color really did not matter to me.
I have been a Samsung customer for over 20+ years, never been an i-phone person, tried it/as secondary phone, but did not care for it. Also have tried Google Pixel (as secondary) and still, I remained a Samsung fan, because of their phones, and service history.
By the way I immediately signed up for Samsung Care + due to price of this phone, which to me is outrageous for a phone. This insurance started at $11.00 per month, but is now costing me $13.91 per month after they raised the cost back in April 2024.
On March 20, 2025 I contacted Samsung Care, which is apparently “Servify”, after my inside foldable screen was separating at the top middle, with separation to continuing down the hinge area of the screen. I took photos of this and emailed Samsung.
This concerned me that debris or anything liquid could cause more damage. I did not know what caused this, but my daughter had the same issues with this same Fold 5 phone, to include her screen actually cracked all the way down the hinge area. Now, according to my son-in-law, she has dropped her phone several times, which could explain the white line cracked down the middle of her screen on the entire hinge area. They sent her sent her a new phone with respect that she returned the damaged one within 20 many days, which she complied with. (I did not get this type of treatment for a replacement phone, although please continue reading to understand how I was treated as a customer).
I do use the foldable open screen a lot on my Fold 5, but my phone has been in a case since day 1. First in a Samsung case, but that seemed very thin, so I purchased a thicker case off Amazon, which also held the s pen and had a full hinge protection (like a Unicorn brand style case). While this case was bulkier, this Fold 5 phone cost way too much to have to worry about breaking it, and even worse, waiting for a repair, which is what I am currently doing. Just because it is insured, my phone is required by my job and on-call-status, and therefore changing a device, even temporarily, does not work for me due to work related apps that are required for authentications to my job’s computer.
So Samsung Care sends me to a certified Samsung tech near my home. I take it to them and the first issue was the repair shop did not have my frame color (specific to color only sold on Samsung website). I advised tech I did not care what color the phone or frame was because I have only seen the color of my phone when it was first opened, the rest of its life is cased. But the tech says Samsung does not allow a color change, he is not allowed and can’t change it. (???). He did end up locating the correct frame color while I waited. SO be aware of colors ordered that are or might be unique. But this was not the end.
He (the tech) had my phone over 3 hours and says there were other issues/concerns because the wifi button was not operating and neither was the Bluetooth. Well, I did not have these issues before, but I am not that advanced of a techy type person (I have earbuds, etc.), but I know nothing about repairing cell phones, so I could not argue too much. He gave me my phone back and advised to bring it back in 2 days when he had some cable that he needed. He also mentioned that the screen appeared to have some accidental damage (?) I don’t know anything other than screen was separating, like as if it had a screen protector on it, except I could see rainbow effects/discoloration down the center. I never added anything like a screen protector to this phone. It should also be noted I have never drooped my phone while opened, but closed, yes. Usually on my carpet at home, but it has dropped on a hardwood floor (closed).
I took the phone back to the tech two days later (03-24-25) and he deemed the phone was not repairable after 2 hours. He referred me to contact Samsung.
So, on that same day Monday/March 24, 2025 I contacted Samsung directly upon leaving the technician, I explained my situation and they located where I purchased the phone November 27, 2023 through Samsung. I explained that I had taken it to the required service center and was advised that the phone was not repairable. The male representative at Samsung whom I spoke with, said he would send me a return label and for me to return my Fold 5 phone to Samsung and that this issue would be covered. He was also aware that I had Samsung Care+ upon asking me.
Fast forward to on March 31, 2025. I had no communication from Samsung or any update about my phone, so I called Samsung. They advised me that the phone was at their technician department, which was not open at this time. They advised my phone was not under warranty and that I would need to contact Samsung Care+.
I argued the fact that I had explained everything to Samsung back before sending them the phone. The representative said that Samsung must have advised to send the phone by mistake, not realizing warranty was over. I advised that Samsung rep was aware because they found where I had purchased the phone from them. The rep tells me to call Samsung Care + (is this not Samsung?) and file a claim.
I was out of town, but I immediately call Samsung Care (+) and this male requested my IMEI number and said they would send me a phone overnight and I should have it tomorrow. Well, I advised that I was out of town and that Samsung had my phone, therefore I had no way to give them the IMEI #. The rep advised me to call back when I returned home.
3 days later I return home and call Samsung Care (Servify) and now I am told that Samsung has documented the device could be repaired, but was out of warranty. This has now, greatly improved my possibility of ever buying Samsung again at Zero%.
I pay almost $2000. for a phone, and get treated, bounced around, and the lack of communication and decision changing like this? Not to mention, I waited until the 5th generation to by this foldable phone (Fold 5) and this type of issue should have never happened in the first place.
I am in my 50s and need a larger screen, but I don’t need the headaches behind this phone and Samsung’s poor customer service.
I may be just 1 customer, but I actually have 6 family members that follow what I do as far as cell phones and my complaints. I don’t know if others follow them, but that remains to be seen and is quit a few customers to risk loosing.
So as of this writing, April 14, 2025, I still do not have my phone or any date that it will be returned.
I am going to have to research other phone options for my next cell phone purchase, which will be withing the next 12 months.
