New Samsung soundbar no sound!

Hi all!

I’m trying to connect a soundbar to a TV for someone. I heard that it was working properly before (I’m not sure what the settings were at that time), but I can’t get it to work now. I don’t hear any sound!

TV: Samsung UE50J6240AW (older model)

HDMI Anynet+ (CEC) is turned on
Audio output format set to PCM
Sound output in the TV menu set to Receiver (HDMI) (I can see the audio meter moving on the screen, but I don’t hear any sound!

Soundbar: Samsung HW-Q800F

Set to HDMI eARC/ARC mode

Everything is connected via the correct HDMI port (ARC on the soundbar to ARC on the TV).

Question: Why is there no sound?

I hope someone can help me with this, because I’m completely stuck!

Also I got lazy and used AI for the below

Change Audio Output Type: If your device is set to PCM and there is no sound, change the audio format setting to Bitstream, Dolby Digital, or Auto. PCM often requires more bandwidth or specific decoding that some soundbars cannot handle via ARC.

Check Cable Connections: Ensure HDMI ARC or optical cables are securely connected to both the TV and the audio device. Unplug them and plug them back in firmly.

Toggle eARC/ARC Mode: If your TV has eARC, try turning it off or switching to standard ARC mode, as this can sometimes cause handshake issues.

Restart/Power Cycle Devices: Turn off the TV and the audio system, unplug them from the power outlet for a minute, then turn them back on to reset the HDMI handshake.

Update Firmware: Check for firmware updates for both your TV and soundbar/receiver, as this can resolve audio compatibility issues.
