HDMI1 port Q990C Soundbar does not work independently of S90C TV

I have a Samsung S90C TV and Q990C Soundbar which work together beautifully.

I also have a Nvidia Shield TV Pro which I now use as a Plex Server only. My Plex server also contains my entire classical music collection of high-quality lossless recordings which I would like to listen to on the soundbar WITHOUT switching on the TV.

To this end I plugged the Nvidia Shield TV Pro directly into the HDMI1 port of the Q990C Soundbar. I was hoping to be able to "cast" my music from Plex to the Shield using Plexamp so I could listen to the music without switching on the TV.

However, the music stutters or does not play at all. Music plays fine when TV switched on. Seems like the TV interferes with the process.

I tried turning off HDMI-CEC on the Nvidia Shield TV Pro to stop the TV turning off the device. This makes no difference.
