S800B soundbar power supply

Hello everyone,

I've spent over two hours chatting to Samsung Technical support who are no closer to resolving a solution - all that I need to do is to get the power adaptor further away from the soundbar.

They can't

1 - confirm if it's an ordinary two core cable that I can simply cut and extend

2 - tell me what pin sizes are used so that I can get an extension made up

3 - contact Head Office and ask for specification details

Needless to say it's been like banging my head against a brick wall

I figured out a solution! I spent way too long on this problem.

The HW-s800b and HW-s801b soundbars require a 3.0x1.1m DC connector pushing at least 19v/30w power. The power adapter that came with my soundbar (which I assume is the same for all) was a 3.0x1.1mm DC 19v/60w adapter that only went about 5ft from the TV before having a big brick attached to it, which was frustrating to hide.

I could not find a 10ft+ 3.0x1.1mm DC power adapter at all, so I opted to combine some parts to make an equivalent over USB-C.

I purchased the following 4 items, which powered the sound bar and provided some choice in length, thinness and avoided Samsung Support entirely:

3.0x1.1mm to standard 5.5x2.5mm DC adapter: Amazon.com: DC Plug 11 Connector Tips Kits [6.3x3.0mm 5.5x2.5mm 4.8x1.7mm 4.0x1.7mm 3.5x1.35mm 3.0x1.1mm 2.5x0.7mm, Type USB C, Micro USB, Mini USB, LED Terminal Connector] for 5.5 x 2.1mm AC Power Adapter : Electronics
A 5.5x2.5mm DC to USB-C adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P81526M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details (note that these two just barely fit within the crevasse in the soundbar together - it's important this one is a cable so it can wrap outside the soundbar - otherwise you will run out of room)

I hope that helps! It works just like the original power supply, fits in a cable wall sleeve nicely, and shouldn't be too budget-breaking (although the total solution cost about $60, not exactly great). I ran the cable through a wall sleeve under the Frame soundbar and then under a rug to get behind the couch, out of sight.

I just want to share my solution. I had the exact same problem. The DC cord from the adapter being too short.

I tried all solutions mentioned here, converters, USB-C extension cords etc. from AliExpress. Couldn't find a working solution, so after countles hours i tried the most simple solution. Cut and extend the existing wire.

Cut the DC wire and use a regular wire you would use for any electronic to extend. It works just fine. Also use some Heat Shrink Tubing to get it done correctly.

Hi,

I used an ordinary 2-conductor extension cord like you would use for a regular lamp.

Where I connected the wires, I also used heat shrink tubing to get it properly assembled.

Works like a charm and no need to use all kinds of converters

Just get longer cable the same as the one you have from Amazon or eBay,. I used the European wire to extend my TV cable, and have had no issues. I doubt you could lengthen the power to soundbar wire though

When you cut the wire, how many copper wires are in that wire? 1 or 2?

What gauge should I buy ,18 gauge?

Have an Amazon link to what is the ideal wire to use?

I just cut the end off the European cable that comes with the bar and use a connector to link it to the other cable. But any longer electrical 8 cable will do it 🙃

I had a similar solution.

1 x White 20 Foot 60W USBC cable,

1 x USBC to 3.0mmx1.1mm 90-degree adapter, ("PD USB C to DC Adapter 3.0x1.1mm, 100W PD Type C Female to Male DC Adapter 19.5V")

65W PD power supply.

Makes for a cheap and simple extension. There is no need for the adapter in the middle if you can go directly from USBC to 3.0mmx1.1mm.

Same experience. The humans at Samsung are no help at all. They always end up referring you to the parts department and, of course, Samsung doesn't stock those parts OR an alternative power adapter with a longer DC cable. I believe the correct power connectors are 3.0/1.1mm but I have not found an extension cable with these connectors. I did find an adapter with a 5.5/2.1mm female to 3.0/1.1mm male, but I couldn't find one with a 3.0/1.1 female and a 5.5/2.1mm male. I can't believe Samsung chose such unpopular connectors and didn't bother to offer extensions.

My solution was really simple in the end.
I inset the power brick into the wall and extended the live 240 feed. Really easy, works perfectly, I’d just

been overthinking the solution.
