Annoyed as assumed Samsung would step up and stay ahead with more AI, but sadly aside from a hardware tweak, mutli Ai models and tweaks to photo AI, its all very weak.

I was hoping finally Samsung either ditch Bixby or make a proper Ai Assistant.

Or have I missed something ?

I am not too much into AI assistants, I am glad the processor is upgraded, disappointed the camera is almost the same like S25U although there have been discussions all year round about upgrading the hardware. Not fond of AI assistants myself but I gues that is the future anyway. For me the phone design has to be aesthetically pleasant, but it's not a deal breaker. I am impressed with the approach Samsung has on the inbuilt privacy screen, the technology used is impressive, but as long for me the gorrila glass victus resistance which Samsung uses is the real deal breaker and the real reason why I am still staying with this brand.

My point is Samsung started ahead, has on device processing, but the latest effort is not noteworthy, at this rate this will fall behind just like they did with Bixby, Tizen, etc.. then end up doing an Apple and just using ChatGPT.

In one way I think ditching a solo effort makes sense, top 3 AI tech are hemorrhaging £100 billions of AI, you cannot keep up with that.

I think they were heading in the right direction with Bixby and Gemini. I don't understand the sudden turn arounds that Samsung takes with their products lol it seems to be the rule for them, when something works and people love it they change it or remove it.

Samsung did not fall behind on Tizen. They just did not want to put money there, and the consortium around that OS responded in kind. Then, Google came knocking to get Samsung's clout onto the WearOS, effectively putting the final nail in Tizen's coffin.

Bixby was a low-effort endeavor, to compete with Apple's Siri and Google's Assistant. The latter is dead and is being replaced by Gemini, the former is considered kinda sh*t and there are talks of it being powered by Google as well.

As for the stuff being processed on device, we need a clear distinction on algorithms/machine learning and generative AI. The former is well and it is still great; gen AI, on the other hand, is not great for using on a phone (since it is a auto-complete on steroids, it needs access to the database of the inferences of the training data, and to parse the prompt and everything related to the answer until completion, which is dramatically sped up on the very expensive, energy- and water-intensive data centers).

I do believe you wanted what we were all promised with gen-AI. But those were just commercials and marketing ploys, not the real deal.
